Hell, that's nothing. If you believe the posts here, half of us have spent more than that on ammo recently...

Without batting an eye, I will say that he probably snorted 4x that much coke. So yeah, maybe out of pocket he was out $5M, but between ass kissers and record label execs in the early days, way more than $5M, not even adjusting for inflation.

They made the best music and gave the best performances during those drug fueled years.
Still, it’s good he gave it up so he didn’t end up on that long list of dead before your time.

Some of the best music on earth was composed by people who would today be classified with some psychological disorder, and/or who imbibed on mind altering substances.

That I understand quite well.
I was commenting on the music of Aerosmith.
It was only an opinion (of musical/R&R styles)..

Aerosmith's music isn't exactly good.
Plus, I shy away from the 80's hairbands, with men trying to look like women.

My budget for buying drugs was modest by comparison; $100K every six months. I spent every DIME of it and had a great deal of fun doing so.
Ah, the good old days.................

Same with comedy and some of the greatest authors.
What did Dr Evil say?
"The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. "
Great scene. True statement.

True. And throughout the past decades they preached to us about how they cared more and were more enlightened than us, while at the same time they were in business with evil that executed, murdered, tortured and destroyed millions of lives made possible through their purchases of illegals drugs.
Ever notice that these people never make the connection to the evil that they supported and continue to do so today?

And some of the best writing. Edgar Allen Poe, for example.

If you look at "the arts" over the past 1/2 century, it is only in the last 20-30 years that "artists" have become so strident about anything.
MOST artists really don't give two ****s about anything except their art - no real exceptions. Everything else you see/hear is because someone stuck a microphone or camera in their faces.
Think about it. It most "artistes" are crazy out of their skulls, are use mind altering substances (booze, chanting, drugs, sex) on a regular basis, what compelling reasons do you have to listen to ANYTHING they have to say, except to listen, feel, view the product of their art?
Your post does not make sense, because in one breath you are acknowledging that these folks are trippy, then in the next sentence you are saying someone who is whacked out of their skull is saying "blah blah blah".
Who in their right mind listens to a crazy person for guidance? Not me! I tell my kids that artistes are some of the neediest, shallow, narcissistic, unbalanced, bipolar folks on earth.
Do you know how many times I've told clients I work with to "shut up, and play!"? Many times. I also often tell them to let express themselves thru their work, and leave speeches for the people who are gifted at speech.
For example, Bill Clinton is a very gifted speaker - despite what we think of his fidelity and politics, as was President Reagan.

How does a successful musician, with a long string of hits, and no violent criminal history square with the government loving "drugs are bad for you" crowd? Granted, he and Keith Richards would be good "faces of Coke" before and after pictures.
As for the "violence" he supported, that's hogwash. It's the black market created by government regulation that causes the violence. IOW, our government that knows so well what is "best" for each of us, is causing the very violence they pretend to be trying to stop.
It's funny how government creates a problem, then uses that problem to justify massive bureaucracies and usurpation of power from 'we the people' to address the very problem they themselves created. And all the sheep line up and support it, but whine when something (guns) they love all of a sudden comes under attack from that same government.
Now that same government feels that owning certain guns are bad for us. Isn't it hypocritical to praise and support the "war on drugs" and criticize gun control, salt control, and diet control? Once you allow .gov to determine and enforce laws against what is bad for the individual, and create massive bureaucracies to protect us from ourselves, it will continue to grow and grow, and involve itself in more aspects of our lives. Now that same out of control government is moving into other areas of our lives and freedom.
Tyler had every right to live a life of self destruction. It should be our right to make that choice. It's also our right not to do drugs. It's our choices that define how we live, and whether we will be successful or not.
As for me, my profession prevents me from doing drugs. Not drug screens and being fired for positive results, but the results of me potentially making a mistake and hurting someone.
