I do the treadmill thing Monday-Thursday, 1hr at 3mph, and though my bmi is near 30 (5-4, 170), I wear a 34" loose (for iwb). I have diabetes but it is well under control, I don't even test, 106 last time checked a few weeks ago. I work 3/12s Fri-Sun in a factory, standing, and also have a one man lawn maintenance business during warm weather. So I say, "Yes".

I consider myself in pretty good shape.
My job has helped a lot. For some reason chopping line through swamps and woods for thousands of feet, walking miles per day sometimes when topo'ing, and subsurface utility exploration(shovel, jackhammer, air lance, and vacuum work) in Florida has kept me pretty lean and mean.
I'm use to heat and humidity. A SHTF scenario without water would be another story. As for cold climates, yeah no idea, lived in Florida all my life and have never seen snow.
I jog 5 miles a week, but can only full sprint for about 100 yards. That's with no equipment. I can walk miles in a day with no problem, which seems more likely in a major SHTF situation.
I think I would be physically OK to deal with it. But who knows until it happens.
I don't think enough people focus on staying fit though. Just staying active and eating right can make a big difference. It's a nice tool to have.

No. Well, fit enough for what I need, I guess.
Some day, I'm going to get that running one treadmill while breathing into a tube thing done. I suck at physical stuff. Always have.
Back in HS, I had a gym teacher tell me I must have asthma bc he never heard wheezing during a mile run like that. And I ran a lot back then. I just can't seem to oxygenate.
Some day.

I can do more push-ups, pull-ups, run, etc. than the average American male. I consider myself good-to-go.
Could my cardio be slightly better? Yup. However, I'm pretty strong. I have no need to run from you. If I can't whoop your ass, I'll just shoot you. I need not run from anything.

I am in shape. Round is a shape right?!?
Seriously, I am in my early 40's and am in great shape. I swim three times a week, bike competitively (road and mtb), trail run occasionally, and do some weights (mainly for swimming).
I can work in the yard all day long, including running the chainsaw or axe without a problem. I am more fit now than I was in high school.
I do have a bad knee which slows me a little on running but other than that, I am as fit as a fiddle.

I'm not "Marine Corps" fit anymore, but I'm in decent shape. I think I could probably pass a PFT (barely).

Totally agree, you can have all the plans in the world but if you can't carry them out physically, to include your family you are hosed. Luckily, both me and the wife are physically fit (she's a marathon runner, I'm a regular 4mi. runner) still dosen't mean that we are ready for whatever, but we're ready to survive certain hardships that may occur and not have health concerns for the short term.

Completed ToughMudder in 3:30 last October, plan on beating that this April....lift four times a week, one hour of spin class on Wednesdays, x-fit on the weekends...it's a lifestyle for my wife and I; we really want to enjoy our retirement...we are in our early 40's.

I'd say I'm in good shape, but not great. I always slack off in the winter, so in a couple of months I'll step it up again.

Yep. Workout 6 days a week.
Kettle bells, sledgehammer and tire, bunch of logs out back of the house to throw around, running and ruck marches.

Running is not necessarily a good metric by which to judge fitness. I am overweight and I have had moderate arthritis for over 20 years but I am quite strong with great endurance. I consider myself fit. I've never been too weak or too tired to keep going, albeit sometimes at a reduced pace, and most of my work and play is outside.

If you are doing something like running or lifting weights...basically anything, you are ahead of a lot of folks.

Yes. Though I have to some physical therapy for the tendonitis in my right arm/shoulder before I can do kettlebells again. I miss my kettlebells. And I'm good for a 20 mile hike. I wasn't built for speed, though. My sprints are laughable. I drag sled loads of firewood uphill a quarter mile to heat the house in the winter and for exercise. It keeps my butt in shape. But I think it's messing with the tendonitis. My doc yelled at me for not resting it. It was haul wood or freeze, though.
