Threat by Former Marine Today At Work

I sell Redwing boots, both at a store and out of a boot truck.
Today, I was at the store when a guy came in to return a pair of boots...my co-worker was dealing with him.
The boots were new in box...American made, and worth about $250.
When my friend looked him up in the computer, we found that the last time he bought boots was in 2007....we really can't just give money back for 6yr old boots...strangely, the pair he is returning have a date code of 2010 inside, which tells me he got them someplace else.
We offered to swap them for a different pair, or to give him a store credit he could use any time.
He starts going off...."I fought for this country and got wounded"...
"You're treating a veteran bad"

His voice got louder and louder...my co-worker raised his so the guy could hear him say "we're done here", which is when the guy says he should "kick our ass".
That's when I said "don't make me call the cops, buddy" edging for the phone and thinking about nearby weapons.
He stormed out saying " I'll be back, and you'll see who you're dealing with".
Selling safety toe boots is very exciting, sometimes.

Forget it.

He tried to scam you and failed.
You'll never see him again.

He probably wasnt even in the military. I've seen this time and time again, especially early on, people claim to be in the military and ask for free/discounted stuff. Its those people that make us look so bad in the public eye.

If he did serve for our country, we owe him are gratitude.
Hopfully he was just blowing steam because he could not put one over on you. But i'd still be careful. I spoke to a Vet the other day, and he was telling me at the va were he gets his meds, some of those guy's are walking time-bombs, especially the older ones.

^^^This! He is just a scammer and probably stole the boots somewhere else and tried to get cash at your store for them. I seriously doubt you will ever see him again.

I know about military phonies. Based on our discussion when he was calm, I would rate him as 70% possibly a vet.
Al Bundy is my hero...if I could only have Peg.

If they were 2007 redwing they would be better than the assembled in USA redwings boots they sells now.

I still buy Redwings, I just make sure they are not the economy china ones.

Some people feel a sense of entitlement, because they were told they should have one. My father is a disabled Vet. He never goes around demanding this or declaring he is entitled to that because he fought in a war and is a Veteran of two wars. In fact he plays it down. The doctors at the VA are impressed with his demeanor. I think the doctor referred to him as "stoic". But, he comes from a different, more humble generation.

I've been around a lot of Marines. A real one would never act like that. Some Army SF poser maybe, but not a real Marine.

LOL, I sued a Marine in small claims court last fall (a contractor that did work on my house). When I served the company his manager says "dude, you don't want to sue ____, he was a marine!" Ummmm, OK.....

When we showed up to court he (the Marine) says, "you sure you want to do this?, Do you know the things I did for this country?" Really?

I have met and am friends with a pretty large amount of ex military, I am involved in a program that takes injured servicemembers hunting, I had never seen any of them act like this much of an idiot.

When the judge found in my favor he lost it and hissed "you'll never see a dime of that money!!!" (after telling my wife to shut her face)

anyway, was not impressed or scared at any point.

i'm related to 4 former marines, and friends with that many more. if a marine (former or otherwise) decides you deserve physical violence you're going to get a warning of 3 words or less and then the fight will start.

"bet you won't"
"show me".
"let's do it"
"make your move"
"well alright then"

those are the most popular precursors i've heard. the time frame between the talking portion and the breaking **** portion varies but from what i have seen it varies on average between about 10 seconds and 1 dumbass remark or move from the other side.

The guy was clearly looking to scam you, based on his last purchase and the fact that the boots presented weren't bought by him.

I'm a 20+ year fan of Redwing and I'm thoroughly disgusted with the fact that the type I wear are now made in China. They still have the same cost as the U.S. mfg boots though. That said, they fit well and are comfortable and durable.
