+10 on that. I have both calibers and every time that question pops up I can't choose either one over the other.

.45
all my pistols i own are chambered for .45 acp and if you need more power just shoot some +p loads. Also as others mentioned ammo is alot easier to find and you dont have to give up a limb when you do buy ammo. however i would like a glock 20 with extended barrel to go hog hunting.

If one is going to use a more reasonable heavy steel revolver for powerful 10mm loads why not just get it in Colt 45, or a 44 magnum and be able to purchase a full range of store bought 44 spec and 44 mag cartridges?
I don't think the effectiveness of my gonads are determined by the amount of blast and recoil I will accept from a handgun.

So you're saying you've never shot a hot 10mm in a Glock?
I'm fairly new to the 10mm and G20, but I've been shooting 200 XTPs at around 1300 fps for a few months now. I find them much more enjoyable to shoot than .357sig or .40 from the subcompacts if that gives you any idea of the recoil. I have some 180s at 1350 that are even easier on my hands an arms. I'm not sure split times have ever mattered in a real gun fight.
As to the comparison to .44mag, .45LC, etc. when someone makes a 15+1 .44mag that I can CCW, I'll switch.

I like hunting with a semi auto pistol. In general your options 10 mm, 45 super, 460 Rowland. In my opinion these three outdistance the 45 ACP. Of these three the 10 mm is much easier to find ammo OTC.
There was a post on here a few weeks back about the 10 mm. It posted a big pig taken with the 10 mm. I have not take a pig that big; I shoot for pigs that I can handle getting the truck by myself.
I like the g20 a lot. Very quiet pistol. Lets ya get up close and personal.
10 mm and g20 is a very good combo

I had a G20. I sold it. Ammo was too expensive and annoying to buy.
I now have a G21SF.
If I want a woods gun I'll carry my 4" GP100 in .357 mag.

If you want a gun, get a .45.
If you want something that looks like that Russian meteor, get a 10mm.

I'll choose the .45 any day. If I need more than a .45 ACP, I'll drop in some .45 Super. I'm not convinced the 10mm will do anything the .40 or .45 can't do just as well and for less.

The 45 acp is an excellent cartridge. One that is well represented in my collection of pistols. If you do much hunting the different calibers soon sort themselves out. It won't take you long to come up with the caliber that works.

My answer would be what round is used the most to bring down a deer?

AZson, by far it would be a revolver cartridge. with a auto pistol I think it would be the 10 mm. I don't think there is a lot of semi auto pistol hunters.

Why would you answer the question with a question?
I'll wager .30-30 is used to take down more deer than .308. But what does that tell us? It tells us that .30-30 is more popular for taking deer than .308.

45 ACP does not compare directly to 10mm. 45 ACP is no more powerful than 40sw. 45 Super is a straight up comparison to 10mm.

Check out these Lone Wolf conversion barrels
G20 can easily convert to .40 S&W, .357 Sig, 9X25
G21 can easily convert to .40 Super, .400 CorBon,

Which means this puts the 10mm at a disadvantage.

Which hurts more... getting run over by a 5 ton truck or a 10 ton truck?
Which would hurt more... falling 60 feet or falling 80 feet?
Sorry... I couldn't resist.

Which loading? The .40 S&W equivalent or the original hot loading?
