270 ft lb of recoil? Can that be correct? As I remember it takes about 70 - 100 joules to break an human arm.
Isn't 270 ft lb about 360 joules?

That's quite a round. Looks quite a bit like the .950 JDJ which can push a 3600 gr bullet (just over half a pound) @ 2200 fps. If memory serves, the rifles chambering it weighed in excess of 85 pounds and even then the recoil was s'posed to be vicious.
ETA: Just for grins I ran both .950 JDJ projectiles through the Schwartz bullet penetration equation and got 135 inches of soft tissue penetration for the 3600 gr projectile @ 2200 fps and 90 inches of soft tissue penetration for the 2400 gr projectile @ 2200 fps. Whoa.

There has to be an upper limit in caliber-bullet weight-recoil.

Agreed.
May be able to do a little lathe work on a projectile tip (i.e. Tri-dart), add some good inards, and cure those problems though.
