I just heard the hostage issue is coming from the L.A. Times. They are saying positively "he might have"

Lapd making statement now...initial report was of a stolen vehicle. Upon locating, gunfire exchanged. Dorner then went into the woods and subsequently the cabin. Unknown condition of the officers.

The first officers were "road dogs", patrolmen etc. They aren't allowed to play with fire. They have to wait for the SWATies, they are the only ones in the room trained and qualified.

Allegedly he took two hostages then stole their car after releasing them. He then wreck and is holding up in a cabin.
I read about via ABC- I admit, not the most credible source nor did they provide a source for their info.
*UPDATE* - according to the LA Times he tied up the residents then stole their car. One of them escaped and got help. He took off in a white SUV and headed south in HWY 38.
