Dial 112???

My wife just found this story on another forum.

Is the info correct?

1.00pm in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend, when an UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put its lights on. Lauren's parents have 4 children (of various ages) and have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait until they get to a service station, etc.
So Lauren remembered her parents' advice, and telephoned 112 from her mobile phone.*
This connected her to the police dispatcher she told the dispatcher that there was an unmarked car with a flashing blue light behind her and that she would not pull over right away but wait until she was in a service station or busy area.*
The dispatcher checked to see if there was a police car where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back-up already on the way.*
Ten minutes later 4 police cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.*
... One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind.
They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground........the man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.*
I never knew that bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you do not have to pull over for an UNMARKED car.
Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a 'safe' place.*
You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them I.e., put on your hazard lights) or call 112 like Lauren did.*
Too bad the mobile phone companies don't give you this little bit of wonderful information.*
So now it's your turn to let your friends know about 112 (112 is an emergency number on your mobile that takes you straight to the police because 999 does not work if you have no signal).*
This is good information that I did not know!

Unless someone can produce a valid police report verifying this information, it's nonsensical whimsy.

There is no verifiable information in that allegorical incident; no city, town, county, or State name; no highway or street information; no police agency name; no police incident report number; no date and time of occurrence; etc.

The number '112' is a European Union number to emergency services, so if any part of it were remotely true, it would have happened in Euroland, not in the U.S.

The number '999' is the UK equivalent of 911.

My mom sent me that story years ago, and I explained to her in depth how it was bogus.

Basically, it comes down to this...

Why would "112" to contact the cops be such a well kept secret, when "911" has been so publicized (and effective) for so many years? Is "112" somehow so much easier to dial, or something?

It makes no sense.

Possibly dangerous misinfo!.

Thanks! I sent that URL back to source, and suggested she FWD it back up the line.

Ed: it didn't sound right to me, either. Why do you think I posted the question here?

Still, all that said, pulling over for an unmarked without calling 911 is a risk. Way to easy to get all the items (car, lights, siren, etc...) required to fake being a cop.

About the video:
This is why Taser created the X29 and I love the certain change from yelling to moaning!
By the way 112 is in Europe the Fire Department.
Police is 110.

This story is also quite old and you will find several threads about this.
Here in Maine there were a few people like this.
One pulled over an off duty State Trooper working this area.
Didn't went well for the fellow and the trooper got some OT out of it.
I wish the LE agencies would just destroy their old vehicles, because you see the wrong people around here picking them up and it is not hard to get a blue light.

Anyway, thanks for the info, guys! I may, or may not have been thinking critically, but you confirmed my suspicions that this was bogus.

I hope my source, sets HER sources straight!

Not to worry, as long as they had probably cause.

Yeah I know, some guys are better then others there.
Wonder how the Taurus will hold up as well as the CV did.
The CV the Taurus replaced had 156k down and after the markings were taken off, it went to the REC Dep. who were happy to get a "newer" car!
