How about the S&W M&P 9mm Shield?

Stopped in the LGS today to shoot the breeze.
Just so happens right before I got there a Shield was traded in. Gun is like new. Three local fellows had owned the gun, so I know it was shot less than 25 rounds. It also has a extra hi cap mag with it.

I impulse bought the gun but don't know anything about the Shield.

Due to recent shoulder operations I'm not going to be able to shoot it for at least a month or two. Maybe this weekend I can get a couple of my lady friend shooters to break it in for me.

Any experience or opinions on the Shield?

I have one M2 and I love it, for me its the perfect carry gun. Small enough to conceal easily, large enough to be shootable. I've been very impressed with the accuracy.

Mine became very familiar and comfortable much quicker than any of several smaller guns I have also tried. For me it points very naturally and when shooting it, it seems much bigger than it is. I am guessing when you heal you will enjoy it. And if by chance not, I am guessing in a month or two they will still be scarce enough such that you would be able to sell it for what you paid, or perhaps a bit more.

They are a good small 9mm. I would take the PPS over it but the Shield was well made. Some people on the S&W site prefer not to have the thumb safety. The stock trigger in the Shield is much better than the stock M&P trigger. Also S&W did a really good job of rolling out this gun with a bunch of holsters and sights ready go go for it when it debuted. I would say this gun is a winner. Enjoy

It is an awesome CCW option. I have mine in a PJ Holster kydex and it disappears. Absolutely love the trigger. I don't understand why S&W can't put the Shield trigger in their other M&P line firearms? If for some reason you don't like it I guarantee you will be able to sell it in about 5 minutes. Enjoy it!

Great gun, M2C. I don't use the manual safety on it, though. The holster I carry in (Comp-Tac MTAC) covers the trigger, so I'm OK with leaving it with the safety off and carrying in that configuration.

It's the same size as the XD-S, which I also have in my carry rotation, too.

So how many rounds do these so called "hi cap" Shield magazines hold?

Just curious because that false term "hi cap" gets used by so many.

7 for the flush, 8 for the extended in 9x19. I believe it's one round less on both for the .40S&W model.

I was thinking of picking up one of the full size M&Ps but there have been so many issues with subpar accuracy I'm not so sure.

It compliments my 5" Pro nicely.

I really don't get what all this fuss is about regarding the accuracy of the Pro. I mean, I'm not doubting there might be a few bad guns out there, but short of my full custom 1911, my M&P has been the most inherenly accurate pistol I've ever shot. Almost 4,000 rounds down range, mostly 115gr WWB and Federal, and the thing is an absolute tack-driver. I threw in the full Apex Competition kit and messed with the sights, and it's probably my favorite handgun to shoot. One ragged hole every time off hand slow fire almost effortlessly.

I'm sure if a dozen or two guys who bought a $600+ gun that's supposed to be target ready has a bad experience, you'd definitely hear about it all over the web, but there are thousands of them out there that run perfectly which no one is posting about. It's definitely been the best bang for the buck pistol I've ever owned...

I want a shield also. They are hard to find here. Most are presold still and at list price. I don't pay list/msrp for firearms of any sort.

I own a M&P 9mm and .45acp. Both are excellent pistols. They are more accurate than I am. And when I'm on my game they produce.

I took them to Little Rock on a business trip along with my G20 and 686P. Fellow employee's that wanted to shoot. New shooters cut there teeth with the M&P's. One of the fellows at 10 yards first time at the range first time shooting put a 5 shot group up with the 9mm that you could cover with a quarter. Impressed the hell out of me!

Deal was I bring the guns and ammo give them a hour of personnel training in my hotel room. And you shoot all the ammo you want. We had a blast and the M&P 9mm was the star of the group.

I like it alot. I shot my buddy's shield and told him if he ever decides he doesnt want it...I will buy it ASAP! They are hard to find in my area.

Its got better factory sights than my G26. The trigger is better than its big brother M&P's and the ergos are some of the best in the biz. Not a fan of safety levers but as many have said. Just leave it off if you dont like it or have a gunsmith remove it.

I also want to but the not yet released XDs9mm. I shot it too and its also a must have.

I love single stack 9mm's so I am kinda biased lol.

Impulse buying I've bought some fine guns but I've also bought some stinkers. I'm glad the Shield is well liked.

Yes I was surprised at the trigger.

Now I can't wait to shoot and carry it.

I see that it fits fine in my G26 holster.

My local dealers here in the south are getting pissed at S&W for introducing a gun they weren't prepared to produce in sufficient quantities. The demand is high here, but supply for months has been near zero for most dealers. Even BassPro hasn't been able to get them and they won't start a wait list because the demand is so high.

Congrats on finding a good used one. I've given up.

I really wanted one when I was buying a CCW and couldn't find one anywhere. I ended up settling for a Taurus PT709 slim with the intentions of trading and taking the hit when the shield became more available. I have learned to love my Taurus in both how it conceals/carries and how it shoots.

I will still give the shield a try when the range picks one up to rent, but I'd have to be stunned by it to get rid of my slim now.

I have one w/ the Apex kit in it. The trigger is about as good as a polymer pistol can get...no joke. Put some big dots on it and I think it is perfect for CCW. The XDS 9 does intrigue me though.
