How old do you have to be to buy a handgun (private party) in Kansas?

I am looking to sell a gen4 17 and am wondering if anyone knows the laws on how old you need to be. I have talked to friends and have been told 18 by some and 21 by others. I tried looking it up, but can't find something official. If anyone has a link, I would appreciate it.

I think FEDERAL law is 21... can't see that being different in Kansas... but I don't live there.

In CA it's 21 to buy but a parent can gift you a handgun at 18.

I think that Kansas Attorney General's Office is an authoritative source of information. You could simply ask in a form on their website.

Looking at both the NRA-ILA and official Kansas legislature website it seems like the age for a handgun (or any short-barreled gun) is 18 years, but I'd certainly look into it further if I were you (contact a lawyer or the AG's office). Here is a quote from the 2012 Statute, Article 63- Crimes against Public Safety, 21-6301 Criminal use of weapons -
21-6301. Criminal use of weapons. (a) Criminal use of weapons is knowingly:

.......
.......

(7) selling, giving or otherwise transferring any firearm with a barrel less than 12 inches long to any person under 18 years of age whether the person knows or has reason to know the length of the barrel;

.......
.......

(14) possessing a firearm with a barrel less than 12 inches long by any person less than 18 years of age whether the person knows or has reason to know the length of the barrel.

18 to buy a handgun from a "private party" in Kansas.
You must be 21 to buy one from a FFL licensed dealer.

Laws are different for private party sales and ffl licensed dealer sales!

Why the difference in age between private party and FFL sales? Doesn't seem to make much sense (then again, when do gun laws ever make sense).

Here's the statute. You can see for yourself.

That's the way it is in Missouri. 21 for a pistol at a dealer, but 18 in private party sales. Stupid.

The silly thing is you have to be 21 to buy pistol ammo. If you go to Walmart and buy 9mm they will card you (if you look young) if your under 21yrs old that 9mm better be for a carbine rifle. They'll ask if it's for a pistol. I guess they figure 18-21 year old kids are just gonna be honest.
