Glock 17 police trade in gen 2s
How hard are these to find? I see 22/23s around here and there but never 17s. Obviously this is not the best time to be looking, but I see people trying to charge what I could buy a new one for. Was just curious if I should hold out and hope I find a decent deal or just buy a new one from one of the websites that has them. It is surprisingly aggravating to find a companion for my old gen 2 23.

Even if you had to pay as much for a used Gen 2 17, it would be a better deal than the sometimes problematic late model Gen 3s and Gen 4s.
Anything that is worn in the Gen 2 can be replaced and the gun will probably still be 'Perfect'.

Get a used G22 and buy a conversion barrel so you can also shoot 9mm in it. With the ammo shortage right now you are more likely to find .40 cal anyway.

I already have a G23 and don't really enjoying shooting .40 all that much. Would rather have a G17 and a G23 instead of swapping around barrels.

Around July a local Police supply store (Jenkins/Indy) HAD trade in 2nd Gen G-17's w/NS (1 mag) for $265. I snoozed whan the display case was full of them, when they had one left, I said let me sleep on it, came back next day (snooze you lose) and they were all gone. Try and find a deal like that nowadays anywhere!!!

I just did this and have the G22. still waiting for Conversion barrel from GlockStore.
The idea of the 22/17 or any combination is a good one. I can have my practice with 9mm and use it for HD or SD with 40.
Same with the 23/19 format ,etc. etc., you get multiple Glocks in one format. Just have mags for both calibers and you're a more versatile gun owner.
Never had FTE or FTF with the conversion barrels and Glocks.
Good luck and welcome to GlockTalk!

I see your a champion for reminding folks of "problematic " glocks even thought it has nothing to do with the topic.

You're correct! I thought I was responding to another post where the OP was asking about buying a used <something> versus a new <something else>.
Sorry about that!
Although, if I could find a used Gen 2 or early Gen 3, I would rather buy that than buy a later Gen 3 or Gen 4. My opinion hasn't changed, it just isn't appropriate to this thread.
I just don't see many (or any) used Glocks around here. Last time I was at the LGS, they were about out of everything!
And, yes, I do have a late Gen 3 G21SF. I would rather have an earlier version. Maybe something back around 2007 if they were available.

Summit has nothing I believe, I had spoken with him a few days back. The pickings are slim to none right now where I live. Looks like I will have to be patient.

The reason you see more G22 and G23 police trade ins is because more police departments use the .40 SW for it's stopping power over a 9mm. A lot of departments are trading in the Gen2 for the Gen4. There is nothing wrong with having a conversion barrel. I was thinking about getting a 9mm one for my G23 but with the ammo shortage now I am waiting, may do .357 SIG instead.
