want something i can shoot in rimfire cometitions at my club, they do bullseye and plate shoots, so a heavier, longer barrel .22 with target sights is the ticket. Any suggestions?

S&W 41 is the standard most others are compared to. For Bullseye it's be a great choice. Not sure about "plate shoots", if it involves transitions go light weight. TacSol top end on a Ruger or Buckmark.

A S&W 41 is very nice, but expensive.

What's your budget?? An S&W Model 41 costs a whole lot more than a Ruger or a Browning. A Hammerli or Pardini is even more (think $1200 and up). I have been a bullseye competitor for nearly 30 years, and my .22 gun has always been a Ruger Mk II. With a Volquartsen trigger kit and a dot sight, it's still cheaper than a Model 41, and is capable of shooting better groups than I can.

Ruger MkII Target is a great gun and the trigger can be upgraded. Next on my list of .22s

My wife shoots an old Browning 5.5 Match. She loved it. The only problem it had was erratic ejection when it was new. I fixed that by reshaping the ejector just a bit.

I shoot a Smith 41. Awesome. It loves the lightest ammo I can find. Target, Match Or at the very least Standard Velocity. Never High velocity, stingers etc..

Under $500, you only really have two choices; new Ruger or used Hi-Standard. With a bit of looking, you should be able to score a nice Supermatic or Victor. Military grip models seem to go for a bit more money. Magazines are still available at ~$30 each.

Good used high standard can be in your price range and while mags and parts can be tough to find they tend to hold up to the smith 41 very well. Ruger or buck marks are good choices in current production guns. Do not overlook the revolver I use a smith k22 model 17 and it has accuracy on par with the model 41

Great gun and configuration for half the cost of the higher end models, even with the Volquartsen. This pistol is way more accurate than I am capable of shooting it.

New, they list for $880.
I paid $425 for a like new in box, gun at my gun clubs "sportsman's sale".
Runs with and keeps up with the S&W 41.
(This is not just my opinion, look up the reviews!)

I have one of these guns as well. Put a Simmons SP1 3MOA red dot on it. The red dot sight has a 1" tube. Uses the Ruger supplied rings. Shoots a 3/8-5/8" group at 50 yards off a rest with Federal Gold Medal Target ammo

handled a mk3 and a 22/45 today, the all steel mark 3s too heavy for one handed stuff and the luger grips weird, the 2245 with 1911 grips seems great
