Bought a Sig Sauer P226
Went into the gun shop Friday to pick up my money from a consignment sale and look what I came across. 
Paid $599.99 for it. It's an older one, pre-rail, Marked Sigarms. Came with one 15 round mag and an extended mag of unknown origin. Haven't loaded it up yet but it's more than twice as long as a factory 15 round mag. Put around 75 rounds through it yesterday afternoon and it shoots quite well for me. I thought I was going to have a problem with the grip and trigger reach but oddly enough I don't notice it so much when firing the weapon. I still think I'll eventually install a reduced reach trigger and maybe a set of aluminum grips for comfort. Overall, I'm very pleased with it. Only problem I had was my thumb prevented slide lock a couple of times so I'll have to adjust my grip to prevent that from happening. Oh, and it also have very forceful and consistent ejection, out to the right, unlike another gun I recently had which I will not mention now.

Is it a West German or German? Either way, fantastic gun.
In the last several months I traded for a barely shot German 226 with original everything and I bought a German triple serial numbered 229 with work done by Grayguns.
I would love to buy a 228 next!

I think the slide was made in Exeter, NH, but the frame is German. It has a pretty good amount of wear on the barrel but I can't tell if its because its been fired a lot of if the previous owner just didn't lube it very well. When I inspected it in the store, it was dirty and bone dry inside. So I quickly oiled everything before I fired it. No hiccups at all in ~75 rounds of AE 124 grain. Would have shot more but I have to conserve my ammo. It's hard to get right now.
West German in the same condition or better would have been cool. However, all the West German 226s and 220s I've seen for sale locally have looked beat to **** and they still want close to $600 for them.

The only reason I don't have one is because I don't upload a lot of photos. This is the 1st time in 2 years I've had occasion to upload anything here.

By the way guys, that ****ty extended mag crapped out. The feed lips are bent and it won't engage the mag release either. Looks like the previous owner attempted a bubba fix on it and it wore off. The factory 15 round mag is fine though. Spring feels like it might be nearing the end of it's service life however. Anyone know where I can buy a new mag spring? A few OEM or Mec Gar mags would be nice too.

You'll be happy. I've shot a lot of rounds through four different P226s and one is my carry gun now. They were/are all great.

Sorry I don't have a shot of the frame rails and I don't have it with me. They looked to be in great shape.
Also, it has the milled stainless slide rather than stamped carbon steel so that puts it after '96 or so.

Non rail and the cat tongue texture grip. I just saw that your take down lever is not flat though. Call Sig, they will give you the date it was made. I have a W. German CPO P220 that is from 1992.

Give us the first few digits of the serial number and we can tell you date of manufacture. I just picked up mine today a 1990 P226. Like you I thought the grip might be trouble for my average sized hands, but it feels great. I am going to put some Houge rubber grips on it for shooting. Congrats to you.

The plot thickens. The magazine which came with the gun is a Sig Sauer marked 15 round mag which has a dovetail type seem in the back which has a bunch of little divits as though it was stamped together. Some research indicates this may be a pre-ban magazine. If so, I ordered the wrong mag spring for it today.
