Energy Drinks Linked to Deaths and Serious Illnesses
This was not shocking it seems like everything now a days has a side effect but has some good info.
"The new reports detail the events suffered by users of 5-Hour, Monster, and Rockstar energy drinks."

I see older men in their fifties drinking this stuff. Some have heart conditions, it has to be a matter of time.

I used to call that stuff a stroke-in-a-bottle. It seems I was mistaken. It is a heart-attack-in-a-bottle!

So out of millions of people drinking energy drinks, there are unconfirmed reports, which can be filed by pretty much anyone, with no actual evidence or medical training at all, of 18 deaths over 8 years. Sure seems like a real public health hazard People with heart problems certainly shouldn't be downing 2 or more of them a day, but sounds like mostly people have some type of health problem within a day or so of drinking an energy drink, so of course the energy drink must have caused the problem... Almost certainly a few reports filed in hopes of a nice settlement check as well. Also, coffee contains more caffeine than energy drinks, plenty of people down multiple cups of coffee a day.

I think people that drink those might already be predisposed to that kind of stuff.
(I like the very overweight guy I see at the Quicky Mart with a wrinkled shirt, crooked tie, sweating and running late, that buys five of them every morning.)

Anyone else remember 4-Loco? All those moronic college kids dying after chugging them. They took it off the market in many states because people could not handle it responsibly.

Just because 1 out of a million people that drink these dies, it means they're more deadly than a 10mm? I am honestly not concerned in the least. I drink Monster and Rockstar regularly, along with 2-4 cups of coffee and 2-3 cans of Coke per day. You could say my body is quite accustomed to the consumption of caffeine.
And before you ask, I'm over 6' and weigh 170lbs soaking wet.
There are people running around that are snorting a dozen lines of cocaine on a daily basis, or smoking meth for 8 hours every day... and yet they somehow don't drop dead after a few sessions of that. I've seen guys that are smoking crack up into their 70s. Many of them live a lot longer than you'd think. The body is an amazing machine... a little Rockstar is hardly something that's going to cause a severe issue to an otherwise healthy individual.

I think they are just like anything else, totally fine as long as you drink them in moderation. If you need to drink at least 1 every day, you have bigger issues.

I'm a 5 hr energy user
It is one of my last lines of defense to combat fatigue on the job. 5 hr has niacin in it, I do not drink coffee, it has a low calorie and carb count which is a plus for me. When I drink one, within 15 minutes I feel the alertness kick in or the fatigue subside. What is happening is the dialation of blood vessels giving more blood flow(niacin) more oxygen flow and the caffeine/stimulant taking effect. I used to take niacin for cholesteral and it had/produced the same effect. If I am working and I feel the effects of fatigue kicking in, I'll try a few things first and then if they do not work quickly, I'll drink a 5 hr. How often? Perhaps about 5 or 6 a month, depending upon schedule, never more than 2 in a 5 hour span.
Drinks that have mau huang and chinese herbs are the dangerous stuff. Gotta look at the carb content too, just sugar water if it's high.

I think the problem here is how many people drink.
I know people who drink coffee all day; as much as 2-3 pots. Most people drink coffee in the morning.
Energy drinks? I see kids and adults drinking these like soda and we all know the wrap soda is getting these days. I know people who drink 5-6 Monsters a day. On that scale, it doesn’t matter if you drink coffee, soda or even orange juice (which has a high acid content and isn’t good for your teeth) its not “good” for you – regardless of whether you can tolerate it physiologically.
And for the record: you get as much of a boost from the natural sugars in an apple as you do a cup of coffee.
Maybe we will get lucky and Idiocracy will come to pass: Monster in all the drinking fountains!

That's how the public thinks though. Lyle Alzado blamed his brain cancer on steroids and became the poster child for how steroids can kill you. To this day, 20 years later, people still point to him as evidence steroids can kill you. Was there any evidence steroids caused his tumor? Nope, none whatsoever.

That doesn't make sense. Do you have a source? (that doesn't start with the word natural or organic)

I can't drink those things. Too much sugar and other stuff.
The real problem is probably people that drink 3-4 a day. I know people like that.
Honestly, outside of a cup of coffee at work I drink very little caffeine at work. I do drink a lot of water (with flavor packs added) and sweet tea at home, but the tea is decaffeinated.
I quit with soft drinks at work mainly to save money but I do feel better now.
