Has Youtube Helped You With Your Glock?
Note I am not knocking anyone using youtube to learn how to do something with a Glock or any gun. I know there are people who use youtube for learning how to do things with Glocks and have succeeded where this guy failed. I am not knocking those who do that.
I was talking to a gunsmith I know and he mentioned that someone brought him a Glock that someone messed up trying to follow a youtube video. In this case the solution was just a simple replacing of a part. This issue had to do with a trigger job where he was trying to drill and dremel into the trigger bar. This is not the first time someone brought him a Glock with a "oops I did something to my gun and now I have a problem".
It got me thinking how many people have had youtube help them do something to their Glock and how many have made a "oops"?

SO followed YouTube on a trigger mod and made a jig to be able to drill the trigger bar the same every time, so now I get a sub 2# trigger consistently.

Watched a bunch of YT videos about cleaning, grip, stance, etc...while jones-ing for mine through the interminable State Police waiting period.
Good general information, IMHO, but I wouldn't do any gunsmithing based on videos.

I do not know if this was the same video that the guy used but this is a video that may answer your question.

Youtube videos about Glocks are interesting and sometimes even fascinating.
However, the greatest real help I found is:
Ptooma Productions :The Complete glock Reference Guide".

Yep successfully everytime, have used it for other guns I have, and all of my dads guns just easier to watch it and follow along then to read. Some videos even have some nice tricks.

There weren't no YouTube when I started Glocking....
And any YouTube video about Glocks that show the use of a hammer, drill, or dremel tool should be removed!

I think youtube instructional videos are great.
They have helped me swap connectors and springs in my Glock.
And field strip / assemble my new AK74.
Like anything on the net.
1) Find some way to determine the source is credible.
2) A man has got to know his own limitations.
I'm no gunsmith.
And there are some things I'm just not going to attempt
on my self defense handgun.

Everytime I get some old gun to clean or has a problem I go to You tube and have so far always found what I needed. A couple I don't think I would have gotten them apart without the video's .
My Ruger 22/45 Mark 3 is a pain to get back together properly and it work. It has to do with the order you insert the magazine and turn the gun this way or that. I can never remember it so I just pull up the video.
I think the watcher has to use some common sense and good judgment .

Same here. I also used it to learn how to field strip and clean my Glock before I even went out to the gun store to pick up my 23. I wanted to make sure that I knew exactly how to take it apart and put it back together before I even picked one up.
I personally wouldn't do any modifications based on YouTube videos, but that has more to do with my lack of faith in myself, rather than a lack of faith in YouTube people.
If I wanted to do any mods done, I'd take it to a professional, since I know for a fact I'd screw it up, YouTube or no YouTube.

Everything i've ever done to my glock i got the info from youtube coupled with GT and common sense. i watch multiple videos on a single mod to make sure it's the general way it should be done. i don't watch one video then attempt whatever i'm doing.

I must laugh at you , wow.... follow the crowd. Get what you like, I'm a big fan of Hickok45 as well but he's 6'8 and is a big guy with huge hands. So he doesn't feel recoil and the g21 is not a problem for him.
I know he loves and swears by the .40 but that isn't going to chose my caliber for me.

Its not my first .40 so he definitely didnt "pick my caliber". I picked my first glock based on his opinions because he has in depth reviews of alot of them.

Youtube helped me learn to detail strip my 19. No modifications though...certainly nothing that involves a dremel.

I found out about Decal Grips through YouTube. I shot my 23 for the first time today with them on and really like them.

I have found the various utube videos very helpfull regarding the Glock info and other firearms as well. Obviously you shouldn't go overboard with everything that you see, but I learned a lot regarding disassembly, mods., and other recomendations and am grateful that such a source of information exists!

Hickok45 has been helpful explaining different firearms. It just happened that through research I bought a Glock 19 Gen4, loved it and bought a G27 next.
Youtube wise I learned how detail strip the slide and change the mag release.
