So how are they going to rescue the poor kid held in the bunker?
How would you rescue him? Any kind of gas that would knock em out without harming the kid?

Don't. Walk away. Its one guy and one kid. He'll get tired of it soon enough, and if you tell the SWAT team, newsies, and lookieloos to go home, his incentive goes with it.

Wait for him to stick his head up and put a bullet in it!
Seriously though I do not know how you do that one. Gas or a flash-bang might be workable to disorient him long enough to get into the bunker.
I personally hope they blast this ###hole. (Great, now I've insulted ###holes everwhere).

Yeah, you'd think there's gotta be some sort of sleeping gas, or something.
Touchy situation for sure... I don't envy the LEO's involved in this.

get the local dentist to lend them his gas and pump it in. When they go in to get the 2 sleeping babes smother the bad guy and leave him there to rot

Just pass an AWB and make the possession of an AR-15 illegal.
When he comes out to turn in his AR-15, you arrest him.
Life is sooooooo simple, when you think like a liberal....

Worst case scenario, there is no good option. Odds are two bodies will be recovered at some point because there is no incentive for surrender and entry really isn't an option.

I'd rethink the gas idea. The Russians tried that in a theater and killed half the hostages.
The reality is that a child will take less of a given drug to get the affects than an adult. What knocks out the guy may kill the kid.

I don't think there is a way to take the place without the kid beng killed in the fray. Time and working on getting him to give the kid up is the best option now, he did allow the kids meds to be dropped in so maybe he'll come around and let the kid go if convinced he'll get some type of deal to a lesser charge or something. Then you kill his ass in a slow and painful manner.

The gas idea assumes he doesn't have an APR, for himself. He most likely dosn't have one for the kid. Any gas you pump will effect the kid before the adult. Also, any gas you pump that knocks the kid out may make the adult think the kid is dead and do something that will kill both of them. It would sure be bad to find the kid got burned alive beacause the bad guy set fire to the joint after feeling he lost his leverage.
Also, you have to remember the kid is probably scared and, with his known medical conditions, there is really no way of knowing how he will react to what LE does.
It's about the worst situation possible, when no peaceful end is imminent.

Nope, yes and yes.
Critical intervention neesds to be monitoring and available ASAP in case he starts to assault the child.
Im sure they can control what he is seeing and hearing.

This is terrible. I almost tear up thinking of the kid & family. I have young kids too.
There are anesthetic gasses that are odorless, non-flammable, and very rapid acting. They would probably work before the guy realized it and put on a mask. If you use those gasses you're committed no matter what b/c you only have a few minutes to make sure the kid is still breathing or start ventilating him. Much more likely to end well, though, than a breach without gas.
I hope someone pisses on the perp's corpse for me.

Foolproof plan:
Have the media announce LE went into the bunker and found the man & child dead.
Get notepads out, copy down all the "I would have... They should have..." off the web and they'll have brilliant solutions.

Dig a 2nd hole next to him, and very carefully create an opening into his bunker. Then shoot him in the head when the time is right. You could turn on a generator or something at the surface to mask the sound of the digging.
Alternative ...
Cut off his power and fill the bunker half way with water. It will ruin all of his food and supplies, and make it impossible to rest. They need to make his experience as uncomfortable as possible, without causing any physical harm to either of them.
Another alternative (my favorite) ...
Find out something he is afraid of, say spiders. Then dump hundreds of harmless spiders down his PVC vent and watch how fast he hits that door ...

From this article, it looks like his neighbors were a bunch of sissies, or he'd have never gotten so far out of hand.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/31/us/ala...html?hpt=hp_t2
They put up with him building his own speed bumps on the road and with at least 2 incidents somebody should have killed him for, regardless of the threat of prison. This is what happens when you don't shoot the crazy POS next door.

Ummm no we don't use anesthetic gasses, for too many reasons than I can explain here.
