Are you happy with your 590A1 ?
My LGS just got a 590A1 in with rifle sights. Really close to getting it. Anyone out there not like their 590A1 or have problems with it ? If you had to do it over again, would you buy the same gun ? Do rifle sights make sense on a shotgun ? Seems interesting...
They also have a 870 police issue (heavy barrel, parkerized, bead) but it's $125 more and I like the location of the safety on the Mossy.
This would be my first shotgun.

I currently don't own one but been wanting to buy one for a long time. i currently have 2 500's and one 870 home defense model.....when the time comes i will get a 590 eventually but the're deff worth it, great guns super reliable and just look bad as hell you can't go wrong with them and in my opinion i think their better then the 870.

I've had one for 15+ years with no issues. I shoot it about 2x a year to keep it warm so to speak. Works Everytime

Have you shot them before? I ask cause I never did & bought the 590A1. I found it hard to shoot & had top spend some $ to get a shorter pistol grip stock, so it was comfortable to shoot. I'm sure I would have had to do it to any shotgun.
That's the only complaint. My 590A1 has been trouble free.

Heavier than a 500, which tames the recoil a bit. Shoots like it should cost twice what it did in my opinion.

I am happy with mine. 6 shot 590A1 with regular sights and speedfeed stock. Had it a few years. I dig it. Would buy again.

Allow me to clarify.. there are approx 10,000 people in the queue for a background check in Colorado. With all the people buying guns, the queue hasn't gotten any smaller over the past month. The state is processing them as fast as possible. Latest time estimate with this sized queue is approx 6 to 8 days.
Before this panic, it took 10 minutes.

For the record, California is 10 days for rifles, shotguns and pistols.

Mine has been great. the position of the safety made the choice for me between the 590 and the 870.
Would buy again without hesitation.

I like mine so well I sent the barrel out and had it threaded for screw in chokes. It has Speed Feed stock, Side Saddle, Surefire forearm with light and ghost ring rifle sights .
If you think about it this gun is very versatile for home defense and outdoor survival against big bad animals, two legged animals and starvation. It can handle very light to very heavy 3" magnum loads.

I prefer it over my 870 Tact. The 590A1 is the 1 to depend upon.

I really like both of mine, but both of them had a stiff action to begin.

Love my 590 and my Vang comp 500. My 590, so I'm told, is a Coast Guard contract over run and has the Mossberg accuchoke barrel on it with an improved cylinder screw in choke. It groups nearly as good as my Vang 500 does. I have seen a guy in here recently having some QC issues with some broken pins, that sort of thing happens with every manufacturer so be aware of it. I would definitely buy Mossberg again.

My 590A1 (20 in. barrel) is reliable and I like it but I think it is too long & too heavy compared to my 500 with 18.5 in barrel & 5 round mag.
If I was going to get another 590 I would skip the heavy barrel, would get an 18.5 in barrel version and would buy a mag extension. For some reason Mossberg makes the 18.5 in. barrel 590 with only a 5 round mag tube.

Understand. I got the 590A1, with 18.5 in. barrel, speedfeed stock and rifle sights. I'm okay with the 5+1 for now (my first shotgun anyway). Didn't seem heavy in the store, but of course it wasn't loaded. I hope to pick it up Tuesday or Wednesday, if everything goes through okay.
Mine is not in a box, so I'm assuming I should get a manual and a lock with the gun ?

Not necessarily. But try here: https://www.mossberg.com/manuals/500_835_590_535_en.pdf
or here: https://www.mossberg.com/service/manuals
Local sheriff dept in my neck of the woods will give gun locks away for the asking. Not too expensive to buy either ($6-12.00).
Weight is a little heavier than other shotguns because of the thicker barrel. Are you going to bird hunt with it?
I like the shorter barrel for HD. It is easier to maneuver around corners and less leverage for an attacker to work with. IMHO that is. I really wanted the 20" barrel with 9+ mag and bayonet lug... why a bayo I have no idea, just sounds cool, i guess. The 18.5, turns out, fits the bill better than I excepted. It is nice and compact for camping too.
