Highland Park, IL Gun Ban

City Council for the town I'm in pulled a Boss Hog from Dukes of H***ard on everybody on Monday night. While everybody in Chicagoland was watching game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs they passed a firearms ban. Here's the pdf format. http://www.cityhpil.com/documents/21/31/chapter134.pdf In order to be eligible for permission and a permit from the Chief of Police you have to have a FOID card. Nonresidents, with the exception of active duty military personnel with orders for Ilinois, cannot obtain a FOID card, as per a ruling from the Illinois State Supreme Court in the matter of The People of The State of Illinois v. Leonard Holmes in April 2011. This means spouses of military have to give up their firearms. I'm one is those spouses.

Anybody know of a good attorney? I'm ready to go.

If they did a ban as you say then they are in violation of the court order! The Law /ordanance will be invalid once Constitutional carry takes effect. Or Quinn signs CCW law.

First off, I posted the wrong link. Apparently what I posted before will be null due to concealed carry. They passed a semi auto ban, magazine capacity restriction, and semi auto rifle ban. The legislation was like a copy and paste of Feinstein's bill that got defeated. The bill also referred to Heller in an inaccurate way. I will try to post a link next time I'm in a desktop.

I had an interesting meeting with the City Manager today. He's pro gun and advised the council to not pass the ban. They did anyways. He has now been tasked with modifying this bill to weaken it or get it defeated. The bill is going up for reconsideration on 7/1. I will be there. Apparently many of the city council members are feeling the wrath of this one. If it's not defeated on 7/1 I will be pressuring the mayor to not ratify it. If this thing becomes law I am already working with an attorney to challenge it. The NRA-ILA was a good source in locating one. I also have people pledging financial contributions for the case. I haven't yet approached the NRA, SOFA, or Gun Owner's of America about helping out on this one. Additionally, I have not contacted the Sensors and Congressmen in my state. I have been told to contact Senator Mark Kirk though.

From what I understand on the issue, one of the concessions made in the new CCW bill is that any gun laws concerning rifles enacted before adoption of the CCW regs will be grandfathered. Established regulations on handguns and home rule however will be invalidated.

So, Highland Park -and other anti-gun Illinois communities-are trying to beat the clock by getting their AWB's on the books before the deadline passes and they lose the power to do so.

After several meetings with several people in Highland Park is the result. I want the AWB bill to become law. I want HB183 to become law so long as it still has preemption. A lawsuit is coming and is currently in the works. The ramifications of a win for the plaintiff (myself) will be huge. We (yes we, and I'm not telling you who the other party is) are on the same page and are aware of the big picture. This will make Illinois a better state. I'm sorry I can't say more. I want to, but when freedom is at stake it is one of those rare times when saying less is best.

Less talk more action!

Please do keep a lid on this until whatever public details come thru that everyone would have access too.

Good luck and I'm sure the ISRA would be willing to help or at least be an asset for you.
