We are still the last, best hope. There are a few countries that may be very nice to live in if one is coming there with wheelbarrows full of cash. For those of us without wheelbarrows full of cash they will allow us to visit for a few weeks and then make certain we leave as they probably have much better immigration laws than do we. However for working people, the US is the last, best hope. That is why people risk their lives to make pickup trucks float to get here, hide in containers and risk frying or dehydrating to get here, risk walking across a desert and being shot to get here, etc.

Already went to crap. The people of this country voted in a Muslim from Kenya to office who done nothing but lie for 4 years and at the end of the 4 years they cheered his name and re elected him, don't get much worst then that

What Bruce said. I've been here 64 years and the only way I'll leave is feet first.

I tagged alog on a hunting trip with my uncle to Mongolia several years. If it's still like it was there, then I'd love to live in rural Mongolia.
There was a very limited law enforcement presence and long guns were easy to obtain legally. Many men open carried fixed blade knives and seemed happy.
Also, drug stores seem to sell pain medication OTC there.

What a cowardly question!
Grow a pair, learn how to use them, and stand and fight!
BTW, look up the word patriot.
This is an insult to anyone who has lost a family member in the military.

Costa Rica isn't too bad. Beautiful place, with a great climate.

I think Carrys has it right.
After all, we're not a country of uneducated peasants. The good minds and strong wills of the citizenry will ultimately prevail.
I don't see the USA as a flaming, downward spiraling disaster. It's more like a multi-engine aircraft with one engine having serious problems. We can make it back to where we need to be...if we're willing to work at it!

Texas, apply to become a Texican. If only getting my NP license wasn't so tough and privileges so few.

The same state I am in. It used to be its own country, and has enough resources natural and otherwise to be one again. Texas doesn't need the Unted States, the United States needs Texas.

The problem is that even on its downward slide, there is no place better. I would like a second home in New Zealand, a third in Costa Rica, and a fourth in Iceland, just in case I can't stop the ship from sinking completely, and since this is all a pipe dream I can't afford anyway.

If you have a verifiable income stream like SS and pension you can become a dual citizen of Chile. The cost of living is affordable and it has a very low crime rate with a strong economy. They are very welcoming of American retirees as well. The taxes are very low and it has a modern and affordable health care system. Also it is close enough where the flights to the U.S. are not expensive like many other countries.

It would take a lot for me to move but when we retire this looks pretty inviting.

Why Iceland? Anthony Bourdain says Icelanders are hearty party folks, but I'm not aware of other attractions. Makes me shiver just to think about living there.

If by that, you mean throwing people in jail for what we consider constitutionally protected speech (at least when it's right of center), having no right to own guns, and going their entire lives without ever seeing a decent looking woman or drinking good liquor, I guess it may be just what you're looking for.
