Official GLOCK training model thread (PIC HEAVY)

This thread is designed to answer the most common questions about the different GLOCK training model pistols. The pistols below are mine. There are different variations and generations, like all other models.

We will start with the “T” models. The most common is the G17T. The G17T comes in two calibers; the 9mmFX (more commonly known as “simunitions”) and the 7.8x21AC. The 9mmFX is a center fire cartridge and is the most common of the G17T. The 7.8x21AC is an air compressed cartridge. GLOCK says it exists, but to this date I have never seen one nor even found a picture of one. In addition to the G17T, I have seen pictures of a G19T, so other “T” models may exist.

The “T” models are considered real firearms, thus, all federal, state and local laws apply. They are legal to own (depending on your jurisdiction), but are available from GLOCK to LE only. They do pop up for sale from time to time in various places.

This is the G17T. Obviously, you can see that the “T” models are blue.

This is the left side of the slide, denoting that it is a G17T and is chambered in 9mmFX.

This is the right side of the slide, warning you that the pistol is designed for training.

All of the “T” models get a serial prefix of “T” followed by numbers. The “T” prefix is reserved for “T” models only and is not found on any other model.

Interestingly, this is a 3rd Generation frame, but the “T” has yet to get the third pin.

The G17T uses a regular 9mm magazine, though it comes with a blue magazine baseplate.

The G17T does have it’s own recoil spring assembly and part number.

The G17T barrel has a much longer feed ramp and is rifled.

The G17T firing pin tip is offset to the bottom.

The G17T has a unique locking block.

Here is the locking block, removed from the frame.

Aside from these noted differences, most other parts are the same as most other models.

Next are the “P” models. The most common is the G22P. The G22P is of course chambered in .40 S&W. I do know that there are other “P” models, though the G22P is what is most common. The “P” models are basically dummies used for training safely. With a few parts changes, they can be fired.

The “P” models are considered real firearms, thus, all federal, state and local laws apply. They are legal to own (depending on your jurisdiction), but are available from GLOCK to LE only. They do pop up for sale from time to time in various places.

This is the G22P. Obviously, you can see that the “P” models are red.

This is the left side of the slide, denoting that it is a G22P and is chambered in .40.

The G22P has a serial prefix of “PJ..” Only the “P” and “R” (explained later) have the “PJ” prefix.

This is the muzzle of the G22P, no…no tiny bullet pops out here. The barrel is mostly solid. I’ll explain below.

Though the barrel is solid on a G22P, it does have a chamber (for use with dummy rounds). In the event that you do load live ammunition (there are more fail safes, explained below) and it does happen to fire, this hole will help disperse the pressure, presumably.

Here is the side of the barrel. As you can see, it has holes. This is for weight reduction to make the firearm point and weigh like a real G22.

The G22P uses a normal G22 magazine. It does normally come with a black magazine baseplate. I added the orange for distinction.

The G22P firing pin has no point.

The G22P breech face has no hole for the firing pin to protrude.

Other than this, most parts are the same as most other models.

Next are the “R” models. The most common is the G17R. I don’t know if there are any other “R” models other than the G17R. The G17R is chambered in 9x19. This pistol is designed so that the trigger resets after each pull, without racking the slide. It can be used with a laser integrated system or for general dry fire practices and other dummy practices.

The “R” models are considered real firearms, thus, all federal, state and local laws apply. They are legal to own (depending on your jurisdiction), but are available from GLOCK to LE only. They do pop up for sale from time to time in various places.

This is the left side of the slide, denoting that it is a G17R and is chambered in 9x19.

This is the right side of the slide with the warning that the firearm is a practice sample.

This is the G17R serial prefix of “PJ.” Only the “R” and “P” models will have a “PJ” prefix.

The G17R uses regular G17 magazines, though I added the orange base plate for identification.

The G17R has a regular, 9x19 rifled barrel.

As for the last training model that GLOCK makes, we will discuss the “cutaway models.” The cutaways are available to armorers and LE, IIRC. The cutaways come in nearly every model, depending on GLOCK’s mood.

The cutaway models are considered real firearms, thus, all federal, state and local laws apply. They are legal to own (depending on your jurisdiction), but are available from GLOCK to LE and armorers only. They do pop up for sale from time to time in various places.

This is my very early cutaway G19. Someone foolishly decided to poorly polish it. I keep meaning to have it re-coated, but haven’t don’t it, yet. Though, what better model than a cutaway to prove the toughness of GLOCK’s metal treatment?

This is the left side of the slide, denoting that this model is a G19 and is chambered in 9x19.

This is the right side of the slide, warning you that the firearm is a cutaway sample.

Only the cutaway samples get a “JQ” serial prefix.

Other than the side, the magazine is the same as a normal magazine (though this one is earlier).

I'd love to have one of those "R" models for dry-fire practice. I wish Glock would make those available to the general public. Or some third party would make something similar.
