I can understand being scared and nervous. I can understand throwing up after a close call. I can understand that bravado does cover up what a lot of people feel and think about an encounter with bad guys.

I can't understand giving up your guns when you find your girlfriend hiding in the tub and the police still not there.

and I've put in countless hours at the gun shows just like him.

Probably a nancygirl. The whole story sounds made up to me. Poor fiction writing.

IMO it's 9 chances in 10 the guy is FOS.

If not he should have tossed his girlfriend the shotgun to drive off the miscreant while he cowered in the tub talking to 911.

I grabbed the gun and fumbled for the ammunition in the half-light, spilling most on the ground, but finally found one cartridge I was able to slide into the chamber.
Obviously he shouldn't have owned a gun anyway if this is how it went down.

Please do us all a a favor and leave the lying son of biotch author a comment mentioning the fact he is in fact a liar and the story is fictional as can be.

You can say that again.

He should of left a pair of balls next to the shotgun in the broom closet for the next time. But it sounds like he gave those up a long time ago too...

I have several issues. He put the gun next to the door...Emtpy. Then went outside ?

You don't a gun next to the door.. You have issues and you think you will need the gun. So, it is empty. Then you go outside?

Go to a safe place. Get your firearm. Call police. Wait and react properly if the intruder gets to you. Anything else opens you up to being Sued and jail time.

If this person went to the range as much as was said, this reaction loading the shotgun should not have happened. I believe he is a poser trying to sound like a gun owner. Muscle memory would have kicked in while loading. What shotgun was needed is a coach gun. Shorter, carries two rounds and easy to see and load. Also, it did not say if he went to any training sites.

You guys, read the author's bio at the bottom of the article, he's a professional writer. This is purely fiction; he fabricated the entire piece:

Quote:
Blanchfield is a Ph.D. candidate and Woodruff Scholar in comparative literature at Emory University in Atlanta.
I doubt this idiot has ever fired a gun, let alone owned one. This is a premeditated hit piece, pure and simple. He's pulled discredited statistics from The Brady Bunch website to promote his anti-gun agenda.

As I've said before, these Champions of Idiocy march on, arrogantly oblivious to the ****-wagon they're pulling.

If he is truly this frightened and panicked operating a simple shotgun, especially after "countless hours" of range time and years of experience, then he SHOULD give them up. He is clearly not fit to own such a weapon, and he MAY end up shooting an innocent bystander in his hysteria.

I agree with several others here and think this story is complete BS. Many elements are contradictory. He admitted that racking the slide scared away the intruder, yet he still doesn't want one in his house?!? If he had no shotgun (loaded or not), he would have been facing this intruder face to face. I am curious what option he would like to have then.

He'll probably opt for a loud tape-recording of a shotgun being racked repeatedly...

They keep scrubbing my comments on the article. All of them have been deleted.

The author can be reached here:

He also seems to think he is getting himself a PHD this year from Emory University in Atlanta. If you think he shouldn't there might be someone at Emory that is interested in the garbage he has produced. I'm no rocket scientists and IMO that article is not up the the standards you would expect from someone with a PHD

Unless a convincing case for academic dishonesty can be made, an article in a newspaper doesn't and shouldn't have any bearing on whether he'll receive his PhD or not.

The only thing more laughable than his story is his "phd" level writing. There should be a way to confer honorary doctorates in bull****, hmm might make for a nice political blog.

So you think it is acceptable for a person who is getting (or has) a PhD to author a fictitious article?
