I agree with the sentiments expressed by many that the OP article is a pure fabrication -- it has the solid ring of "untruth" to it.

This should explain the article without reading it. But if you need to get your blood pressure up, go for it and read it.

Kudos to the commentors. Almost all of them recognized that the story was a fabrication and deserved zero consideration.

This.
He had not realistically considered whether or not he would/could actually defend himself.

What are you talking about? Maybe the part where he talks about shooting his AR on full auto?
This is what happens when we allow some metro-sexual New Yorker move down south and touch a gun.

You are being too kind.
Let's call it what it is; the author is a LIAR and nothing more.

The "guy" is a writer, not a gun owner. This is a total fabrication by a vetted gun grabbing pos.

Just another lying bed-wetter trying to persuade the readers that guns are evil and those of us who own them are living in a fantasy "Rambo" world.
The only thing in that article that had any ring of truth was his claim of being a New Yorker.
This is why I hold (most but not all) liberals in such contempt. They invariably feel the need to lie to promote their agenda. If they just come out and tell the truth, at least then they have earned my respect. I will still disagree with them, but at least they're honest in what they say.
This clown has "LIAR" stamped across his forehead (just above the world "LOSER."

He mentions the NYPD injuring others in an attempt to stop someone. I guess he wants all police forces to diasarm and stop the fantasy that guns protect them. There you have it officers turn them in and soon enough our society will be like Japan with only a few gun related killings a year.

Japan has virtually zero immigrants, almost impossible to gain citizenship, an extremely reserved culture etc.
As we all know people comparing Japan to the rest of the world is total BS.
Brazil has very strict gun control, and over 30,000 people die by guns there each year..

Was it supposed to be serious? Place home defense shotgun in closet by BACK DOOR? Unloaded? And throw up trying to load it?

Thank you. Who keeps their home defense gun at the backdoor, unloaded? If it's going to be unloaded, wouldn't you want it in the bedroom where you sleep, so you have the most time available between the backdoor getting kicked in and the burglar finding your room?

Yea, its called common sense.
There are many people with none, and they don't need a water pistol let alone a shotgun..

It said in the article he is a PHD candidate. Do you know what PHD stands for?
Piled
Higher
Deeper
He is definitely piled higher and deeper, in his thinking. He disproved what he said about not being safer, with a gun around. He stated when he racked the shotgun, the BG ran. The sound of racking the shotgun, did the trick.

Quite possibly the "girlfriend" is as fictitious as the pump shotgun, the attempted break-in, the "hundreds of hours" of range time, or anything else that the liar wrote. For that matter, she might be as real as Obama's "Genevieve"...

Well after first paragraph it had thing to sign for AWB.
He mentioned he owned a bushmaster AR , yet left out the type of shotgun magically unloaded its self.
Who keeps a gun for home defense by the back door ? Unloaded?
Personally my nightstand gun is next to me and ready.
And if you've been targeted several times recently this would really be the case.
Guy slid across the hood of car? Really just like in the movies , even after hearing you rack the gun. BS.
That's all the crap I saw wrong in little I could stand to read.

Which begs the follow-up question: how did he rack 3 times, when the action is locked once the shell is in the chamber. Yes, the unlock button is there, but there is no way to accidentally depress it while racking your gun multiple times. Guy is a liar, plain and simple.

I agree the story is a fabrication.
But if it is real, I got first dibs on the shotgun.

How convenient that he owned a " Bushmaster", the current evil-gun of the moment....
In reading the article, I don't actually think he has ever owned a gun at all, it's a fabricated story he felt would easily get published due to the hysteria of the moment.
He's a PhD candidate and being published not only helps, but is required by many programs.
Anyone here own a pump shotgun? try cycling the action repeatedly without firing as the author claims he did....
The author has likely never touched a real firearm in his life.
