It's his right to give up his guns. It's my right to keep mine.

Idjit, probably a liar too. If he ever actually had them it sounds like a good thing he got rid of them. It sounds to me like an anti pretending he had guns. I've gone to investigate things that go bump in the night and didn't have to throw up. I've also run off intruders at gun point and didn't throw up. Of course I believe that some people NEED shooting.

If this man doesn't feel confident enough to handle a firearm than by all means, don't own one. Just stay the heck away from my rights to own one then!!!

After just reading the first few paragraphs, it sounds like this individual did not have a good plan.

It sounds like he did not practice.

It sounds like he was not prepared.

It sounds like he could not properly handle a firearm.

It sounds like he made the right choice to give up his guns.

It sounds like he prefers calling 911 and waiting.

Again, I stopped a few paragraphs in.

I think that is the new tactic nowadays , say you owned guns. my buddy took me to a debate club at the university where they were talking about gun control. after counter-pointing his nonsense I asked him what gun he owned

"a Tac-45"
for all of you that don't know a Tac-45 is a handgun in the video game call of duty and for some reason FN didn't give them the license to use the real name FNP-45 or FNX-45 Tactical but its far out of the price range of a 22 year old Political Science major living in the dorms either way

needless to say I won the debate

He tried to make it sound like was into guns. He even stated he was into them "big time"...those were his words. Then he stated he was a New Yorker through and through. If thats the case, he was never into guns and had no clue as to how to use them. If he was into guns...slap in the mag, pull the charging handle. He could not even load it. Honestly, his best bet would have been to use a handgun or a shotgun...if he was into guns big time. Maybe he does not understand what big time means...or he is a hoplophobe pretending?

As far as the puking goes, what a friggin tool. I would have been awake the rest of the night from an adrenaline high...not puking. What a tool.

This guy is lying. Unless there is some obscure shotgun I'm not aware of, every pump shotgun locks once you rack it once, until it's fired or the slide lock is actively pressed, which by his own description, he was in no mindset to do.

From the article:
Quote:
I worked the action furiously, once, twice, and again, realizing dimly as I did that in doing so I was actually ejecting the shell, unspent, and basically unloading the weapon.
That sound like any shotgun anyone's worked with?

So I got as far as a guy relating how a burglar tried to break into his home, but the shotgun he had caused the burglar to run away, without anybody getting hurt.

As a result he realized:
Quote:
Only in fantasy does keeping a gun in the home make you safer; the statistical reality is just the opposite.
My conclusion: The story/article are fiction. Nobody is that irrational.

When Patrick Blanchfield lived in Atlanta he last made the news as a left-wing sit-in protestor at Emory. As a lige-long New Yorker who intended to return, I have serious doubts that Patrick ever owned a gun in Georgia - he description and irrational conclusion add to my doubts.

I’m stating the obvious here, but, a proper mindset is key to self defense. If this guy is that fearful and reluctant to defend himself with deadly force (when it's appropriate) then it’s a good thing he gave up his firearms.

P.S. I think he's a lying sack of ____!

"I grabbed the gun and fumbled for the ammunition in the half-light, spilling most on the ground, but finally found one cartridge I was able to slide into the chamber.I worked the action furiously, once, twice, and again, realizing dimly as I did that in doing so I was actually ejecting the shell, unspent, and basically unloading the weapon."

So he was so unnerved that he could only load one shell into his shotgun, yet he was able to "furiously" work the action while holding the release button that would allow it to work over and over again without being fired? I call BS.

Edit: stsai465 beat me to it.

If woken up out of a deep sleep I'm not going to be very alert at first either but I suspect that by the time anyone gets out of bed and shuffles to the closet, grabs said shotgun and finds said shells, they would be awake enough to load it.

Unless they never trained with it whatsoever.

It does point out an issue with a standard pump shotgun (think Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 series) as a home defense weapon. If you don't want to keep it loaded, it is a little difficult to load quickly. Of course if you practice

I've always been more comfortable with keeping a handgun loaded since I can drop the mag, rack the slide and it is empty. A revolver - swing out the cylinder and dump out the ammo. Not sure why but I've always been that way.

Does anyone make a detachable-magazine-fed pump shotgun?

The first paragraph, how he had "staged" his HD weapon, shows he has no business owning a gun. He is better off with a safe room, and cell phone.
