I don't know. I've met a few people who are alive only because the law says I can't kill them without consequence.
Take my mother in law for example. Many times I've wondered if she would like to receive a pet rattlesnake in the mail.

Every illegal drug out there can be and is used responsibly by certain percentages of the population, and misused by others.
Except maybe heroin and free base forms of cocaine.
Lots of people can and do use coke, ectasy, marijuana, methamphetamine recreationally without losing control of their lives to it.

Except for meth, I would agree. The problem with meth is that there are simply too many recipes turning out a full spectrum of product ranging from pharma to HAZMAT. HH

I'd agree with that.
Were it not illegal that problem might be lessened with higher grades of MA available.

Thanks. It's an unfortunate stereotype associated with people with Irish lineage that happens to be true in my family.
Personally, I have never seen a person yield positive results from using drugs. On the contrary, where I grew up, drugs were readily available and widely used. I saw nothing but destructive results. Sometimes folks would fight back and come out a better person who endured a rough road, and most times they did not.
With all that said, I don't see drugs as a federal issue. I think it ought to be left to the states to decide on their respective laws.

That's some very disturbing stuff...and yea that one picture I wondered how did the drugs do that. Being burned in some sort of related accident makes sense.
We know a guy who (as far as I know now is clean), but he got into that and lost most of his teeth by the time he was like 25. I do not know why people do a drug like that, they must have heard all the stories and seen pictures like this slide show. Maybe they know something I don't, but I see no way the reward outweighs the risk.

Unfortunately, lots more do lose control.
Where I live now, drug overdoses are the leading cause of death in 18 to 30 year olds. Even over car crashes.
It's just an interesting statistic until you get to see the destruction first hand.
We have some serious mental health problems in this country, and our out of control use of illegal drugs is the most visible sign of that. And, not nearly the resources to deal with it.
It's funny how many people worry about their kids getting attacked, shot, or raped or being in a car wreck, when for the most part, that is not what is killing our kids,

So what about the massive societal costs dopers spread about - ER visits, low and high level crime, pain inflicted on relatives etc.

Bottom line: Meth will make you crazy and wrack your body with poisons but alcohol is a poison too - a very good poison - and it will kill folks...

That's another awful rationalization and abuse of statistics.
Tens of millions of people drink responsibly for decades living keen, productive lives and are most often fantastic parents. You can say more or less none of that about meth users.

I've never met a drug user who sees that. For them, getting more drugs, and ingesting them, trumps every other single thing in priority. And, they can rationalize that to the end of time. Because, if you can't rationalize a behavior in your own mind first, you just can't engage in it. It is a prerequisite and these threads are always a perfect example of that.

When you say "drug user" are you including the "Tens of millions of people" who .264 says drink responsibly?

Well "responsibly", would be the operative word, wouldn't it?
As for "responsible use" of illegal drugs, I would submit that any substance that thousands of people are having to be killed to get it to you would probably fail that test or definition of the word. Obviously, most illegal drug users don't see it that way.
Plug that in and see what you come up with with responsible alcohol use as you define it.
