Which is your favorite Glock GAP platform, and what ammo do you run in it?
Hi all,
Seeing how the GAP has a cult following, like the HK P7 (people either love 'em or hate 'em), and there are various weapon/ammunition combinations that can be carried, I thought it would be interesting to see what gets used by us GAPers. I wish there was a "poll" feature in this forum, but oh well. I thought is would be interesting to see:
1. What is your favorite Glock GAP pistol (37, 38, 39)?
2. What ammunition do you use at the range?
3. If you carry a GAP pistol, what load do you carry?
My answers:
1. Glock 39
2. Whatever I find cheap. Everything from 185gr to 230gr
3. Right now I have DPX in it but have 230gr HST, 230gr WWB, 200gr SGDHP, 200gr Corbon JHP, 185gr STHP, 185gr SGDHP, 185gr HydraShoks, and 165gr Pow'r Ball at the house. My load preferance, in order, for the 39 is DPX, 200gr GDHP, 200gr Corbon JHP, and then the others. I like the 230 gr stuff in the guns with longer barrels. My nightstand XDLE Tactical is loaded with the HST.

1) G39 on my hip as I type this at the library. Only G36 gets carried more often - (I do record "daily carry weapon" in my calender). Sometimes carry G38 when wearing heavier coat. G37 primarily in home defense.
2) Same as you...Have quite a collection of GAP ammo that is obtained here n' there. I enjoy that ammo diversity.
3) Mainly Win.Ranger; Fed. HST; and Speer Gold Dot. First two, 230 gr., GD in 200. Also Mag Tech 165gr. for HD and less common wall penetration.
Cheers.

G38 (retired my G19 to the safe)
Reload my own 185g Berry's Bullets, hollow base round nose for practice.
Carry Gold Dot 200gr HP for on duty/off duty carry.

1. G37 Gen4
2. My own Hornady XTP 185 gr. XTP loads, or Speer Lawman from the stockpile. Eventually, I'll get around to developing and testing a preferred 200 gr. load...
3. I carry Speer Gold Dot 200 gr. in my G39 and spare G37 mags.

I have the 38, so it's my fav GAP.
I might like the 39 if I tried one because I really like my 27.
For range I use WWB, or my 230gn/ 6.1 gn PP reloads (which are still evolving at present)
Don't carry the GAP yet as I've not found any JHP locally.

I don't think you should put the Gap and the H&K P-7 in the same sentence, actually any Glock and the P-7.

I am not comparing the pistols themselves, I am comparing the type of non-mainstream following that they have. I have had many P7s (P7, P7M8, P7M13) over the years. While they are fine firearms, they are heavy, especially the M13, and don't offer anything over other pistols today. That said, there are dedicated P7 folks (I used to be one) and there are also dedicated GAP folks - I am currently one. That's all...
In speaking to a friend who recently starting carrying a Glock 19 instead of his beloved P7M8 he said there were several reasons for the change. He said it was a lot lighter, carried twice as many rounds, mags are easy to find and are inexpensive (current craziness aside) and finally, if he ever did have to use the pistol in self defense and it was tied up for 6 months to 2 years with the police for trial use/etc he said "it's just a Glock and I can get another for under $500."

1. What is your favorite Glock GAP pistol (37, 38, 39)?
Having a OD 39 and gen4 37, like'em both but the 37 shoots like a cadillac. The 39 gets the sexiness points.
2. What ammunition do you use at the range?
Usually georgia arms 230gr. Or whatever I have on hand, it all shoots good out of my bulldawgs.
3. If you carry a GAP pistol, what load do you carry?
I carry the 39, and it has Speer gold dots in currently. The 37 has Winchester Ranger.

45gap online
If you cannot locate this round locally, please check online sources, through "Ammo Engine." Midway; Cheaper Than Dirt; Georgia Arms will be a good start. Good luck.

I enjoy shooting the G 37 the most. I carry the G 39 more often than any of the gaps. I normally carry a sub-compact, either a kimber ultra or the G-39. (I did just buy a G 26 though......)

If you cannot get it locally, I get it from luckygunner.com, and targetsportsusa.com.

G39 with either Georgia Arms or Underwood 185s at the range. Gold dots Elsewhere. This pistol just fits me, but I would like to get a G38 in the near future.

Model 38
I bought a bunch of Winchester Ranger 230hp for carry.
Load 230 Raineer with Win. WSF (out of last Lyman loading manual) to shoot.
