Kudos to Cabelas
We hear a lot of (justifiable) trash talk about businesses (cough - Dicks Sporting Goods - cough) that don't support our rights so I wanted to give a shout out for one that does.
The big annual Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show is happening in Harrisburg PA next month. For those unfamiliar with this event it features all sorts of outdoor stuff... camping, hiking, fishing... if it happens outdoors you'll find it at this show. So while not really a gun show, firearms are certainly a part of whats on display. Well... this year the organizers have decided to ban the display of "assault weapons" and "high capacity ammunition clips" (sic) at the show.
As a result, Cabelas has announced it will not be participating in this year's event. Cabelas makes a lot of money selling non firearms related outdoor stuff, so kudos to them for taking a stand on this issue.

I am so glad to be one of their customers, and have purchased several firearms and a lot of reloading supplies through them already. I'll continue to give them my business.
Cheers to Cabelas!

Yup - I'll be taking a pass on the Eastern Sports & Outdoors Show this year, and likely making a trip to Cabelas on one of the weekends that the show is running. I will also email the management of both organizations informing them of this, and my reasons for doing so.

That's great to hear. I've been a customer for years and will continue to patronize them. They have nice catalogs also, takes a week to flip through if you only read it on the throne.

"Due to recent changes made by Reed Exhibitions regarding the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, Cabela’s will no longer sponsor this year’s event. After careful consideration regarding Cabela’s business practices, and the feelings of our customers, Cabela’s will, unfortunately, not have a presence at the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show."
This is what Cabela's posted on their facebook page.....followed by thousands of posts of people supporting their decision.

Since the Sandy Hook tragedy, gun and ammo prices have skyrocketed and getting a new AR or AK has become an expensive affair. As part of the trickle-down effect, even the lowly .22 rifle and pistol have seen a great increase in prices.
In spite of this, it seems that Cabelas, at least locally, have held the line on firearm pricing. In the last couple of weeks I have picked up a Ruger 10-22 takedown and a Henry survival rifle at prices much lower than advertised on Bud's.
Cheers for Cabelas, I'll be sending more $$ their way.

Cabela's is first rate in the integrity department, an unabashed supporter of outdoors men and women in the sports. I'm pleased to have given them my business over the past 2+ decades.

Don't want to cross-post from other sites, but apparently there's a growing list of vendors, large and small, that have pulled out of the show. Many have nothing to do with black rifles, but are standing with their brothers and sisters on principal. Most if not all have already paid for exhibit space and will lose that money - though there's talk of a lawsuit since the promoter changed the rules after the contracts were signed.
Use your Google-Fu and have a look. If you live in the Northeast you might think about thanking - and patronizing - businesses that have stood firm for the 2nd Amendment.
Here's a good place to start your search - Google "Boycott of Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show"

Reading something like this is so much nicer than reading about a security company rent armed guards to a mews paper attacking CCW holders.
Well off to Cabela's to thank them and help make up for some lost revenue.

I'm glad Cabelas is doing the right thing but-
They are not hurting for money. They overcharge for everything. Their handgun prices are very high along with everything else in their store. I don't know how you guys buy anything from them = so expesvive!

3500 likes, and they're putting up a list of distributors who pulled out. They're encouraging people to give them business; one retailer reported an expected loss of about $2600 from unrefundable show fees and overstock in prep for the show.

Was just going to buy some stuff, no gun related.
I was going to order from another company online to save
a few bucks.
Think I'll go ahead and order from Cab.'s just to support them

Cabelas is the largest Modern Sporting Rifle supplier in the nation. They would lose a lot of money over an AWB, so I can see why they did this. But don't forget, if you are local to the area and can get what you need at a LGS, Trop Gun Shop and Kinsey's are both nearby and are taking a harder hit by backing out than Cabelas is. Be sure to thank them as well as Lancaster Archery Supply in the near future

I like Trop... don't go there often because it's a bit of a drive for me, but a few years back I had them put night sights on my G19 when they had a special going on (and a Glock Armorer on site to install them for free). They're holding a drawing. Bring in a receipt from any other vendor that's pulled out of the show - dated during the week of the show - and they'll enter you in a drawing for a Windham AR-15. Looks like I'll be supporting both Trop and another patriotic vendor that week!

I signed up for a credit card with them when they were running free shipping...it really paid off when you are saving at least $6 an order. They offer fast shipping, and with MOST items, the difference in retail is made up with the savings on shipping. It is $5 shipping now, but still, they are a good company to order from. Too bad their nearest store is 6 hours away :(

If I can add Gander Mtn to the list as well. We(at least my store) give free space for the NRA to set up their recruitment tables every week end give the guys free lunch as well. WE do the same for the Boys/Girls Scouts too. WE have held the line on all our ammo and EBR's as well.

There's a Dicks about 5 minutes from my house. I will never step foot in that place again. Traitors. It's in a military town and a lot of my fellow military share the same the feelings. I hope they go under. Cabelas is about an hour and a half and I gladly drive the distance.
