JAVA Advice?
What do you all think of this? Should I disable it? How do I disable it? How long should I disable it? What will I miss out on when I disable it? I have several Windows 7 and Ubuntu and Lubuntu machines.

Yes, disable it for now. Don't confuse it with JavaScript.
It must be disabled in your browser. Google it.

Meh. Why did you have Java enabled in the first place? It's not like it does anything useful and it's ALWAYS been a monstrous security risk.

Okay, I checked all the machines and apparently I don't have java anything running on anything and I didn't all along. Could it be that simple? I found a sight that describes how to disable it on IE, Chrome, and FF. I followed the directions, and easily got to the pluggins sections of the various browsers and none showed any Java stuff. The directions were simple and easy to follow, so I don't think I missed anything.
Is the default for Ubuntu/Lubuntu and Win7 to not have Java? I never specifically added it to any of them, but I thought Java was something that was kind of just there all along. I don't really understand what it is in the first place. If most people don't have it or need it, WTH is it and why would anyone have it at all?

Also, I was surprised at first to not see any threads on this subject in here. Now it seems that all of you knowledgeable folks didn't bring it up in a thread because you don't bother with Java in the first place. You're all way ahead on this. Is that what is going on, that you guys didn't like/trust Java and disabled it or didn't install it long ago?

There's no reason to even have it unless you want to use sites that require it, like Pogo.

Most Linux distros won't have java installed by default.
Personally I don't use it because its always a security risk, I didn't know about the latest scare to be honest.
