There is a church in my area that has a christian school in the same building. That creates a bit of a grey area in my mind. By Ohio law you can carry in a church with express permission but you can never carry in a school.

My question, during school hours, could a pastor legally enter by the door that is primarily a church door, walk the 30 feet to the church offices and keep his gun there? If he went to the restroom or did anything else in the "school area" of the building, I believe he would need to leave the gun in a safe in his office.

This seems reasonable to me. Would it be better for the pastor (not me) to interpret the law in this reasonable way or to consult with a lawyer or local police to be more sure.

School safety zones
A “school safety zone” includes a school, school building, school
premises, school activity, and school bus. For purposes of this statute, a
school includes everything up to the property boundary

From reading the law, I would say it's off limits. I believe, though, that the administration/school board can specifically name exempt individuals.

That is fair. Not all gun owners are potential criminals.
