a little close
In an apartment about 40 yards from my computer a man was murdered yesterday. I don't know whether he knew his assailant or if it was a stranger and until I do my door stays locked.

A hold over from my hometown. We never lived in a house with a door key. I'll try to do better.

Stay safe.
Just remembered. Where I grew up we had door locks but no keys. And didn't know where keys could be found for them. Just asked a neighbor to "watch out" for us when we left for a while and no problems.
Side note: Last time I went passed the house, the Granite hitching post was gone. Damn.

My wife grew up on a farm on the edge of Sioux Falls S.D. It took years to get her to not leave her keys in the ignition and to lock the doors at night. I still can't get her to lock her vehicle. (Which has been gone through twice in the middle of the night in the 12 years we have been here!)

If I leave my keys in the car is the guy who takes it any less of a thief because it was easy for him?

i grew up in a small town where people would leave the keys either in the ignition or under the seat. By the time i was in high school i had to go to a locksmith to get a key made for the doors on my truck. These days my doors are locked though.
Bill keep them doors locked and hope that the door is never kicked in.

Dang!
When I bought my house, I asked for the keys after the closing and everyone sat there looking at me with blank stares on their faces until someone finally said, "There aren't any keys to the house." On my way home, I stopped by the hardware store and bought two new sets of dead bolts and door knobs. My doors are always locked (car too).

Good move on your part. The good old days are just that. If you think you live in a "safe community" be prepared for grief. tom.

The only reason to lock your house doors is give an audible warning and delay the entry of the goblin, thus, giving us time to get to our shotguns.
<--- can get to shotgun in 2.736 nanoseconds
<--- can get to revolver even faster
<--- given enough time, will brace goblin with an F/A-18 or a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range

About a mile from Addison airport, on Arapaho Rd, N Dallas, Rabbi. It's not really a bad part of town. Bad stuff can happen anywhere

I actually know that area, I have a friend who used to live right by that country club...but I thought you were still living in Houston...I guess I am behind.
