It's me (for a while)

Assuming you missed me, here's the haps.

In November my heart had a fit and I spent three days in hospital. Cardiac cath, ultrasound, xray, CAT scan, EKGs. There was no significant blockage (so no stents) but I am now on 5 different meds each day: 3 'scriptions to control cholesterol, heart rate and blood pressure; 2 OTC for blood thin, and indigestion.

I do have an "atypical aorta", and two iliac artery aneurisms. I was told to cease squatting (heavy) or risk bursting the aneurisms.

Merry Christmas.

Haven't met you yet, but thank God you're okay, brother.
Sounds like some serious fun. Hope you feel better soon, and welcome back! And merry christmas!

Thanks.

"OK" is a relative term. I am "better" but the meds limit my cardio ability because they limit my heart rate and BP. I have begun using a machine called a VersaClimber; it's kinda like squatting; not much fun but very effective.

Wow Greenie, that sounds rough. I'm glad you are doing better. Any prognosis as to whether you'll be able to train again?

Because of the aneurisms I am under orders to not do anything that causes me to hold my breath, or otherwise increase the pressure in my groin area. "Heavy" squats are therefore out.

I am still alive

but the meds I am on are a pain. They so dramatically limit me that I was overtraining, without even doing a lot, so I am now on a "split" routine.

Day 1: versa or stairs for 24 minutes
Day 2: squats (4 sets), pull ups and chin ups (4 sets), push ups or bench press (4 sets)
Day 3: rest

repeat

Thanks. I am now tipping the scales at a whopping "just over" 150 pounds. I have not weighed 150 pounds for many years.

follow up appointment with cardiology

A few days ago. More tests have been ordered: ultrasound, CAT, blood. It seems the Drs are concerned there might be blockage leading into my left arm; the one that is permanently weak due to neck injury. Funny thing is my BP readings seem to vary wildly if taken on the right side, then the left, or vice versa.
