How can the state confiscate private property?
I read what is happening in IL and NY is trying to do the same thing in terms of "confiscating" whatever firearms they want.
I am trying to understand what gives govt the right to take private property that you legally purchased and all of sudden they can just say it is not illegal and we are taking it away!
What would prevent them from doing this with cars, or books or iPods or whatever the whim of some politician believe he no longer wants people to have.
Are there no limits....I am confused because if they can just grab anything do we really not own anything we just hold onto something until the govt wants it for themselves?

Google : California sks owners.
How about your home? City wants your land for a Walmart development because the city can get more tax revenue from the big box store than they can from you paying property taxes.

Oh, and "Is the Pope Catholic?"
To be fair, a number of states passed legislation offering more protection to property owners after the Kelo decision.

IMNSHO, I see it as a complete and total violation of this:
Quote:
Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
|
And this:
Quote:
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

You will give them to them voluntarily. In the exact same way you give them a portion of your pay check voluntarily. Do you not think money is private property?

Anything reclassified illegal becomes contraband and is subject to immediate forfeiture. Been that way with full-auto, and certain drugs for years.

Because they make the laws, that's how. Who's going to stop them? The Feds? How's that statewide marijuana legalization going? Unhindered last I checked.

A good friend owns a liquor store and the cops are confiscating his kegs whenever they bust teenager's parties. HH

After the "State" takes your guns away, they will still have theirs. That's how.

It's already been done. Executive Order 6102 issued by FDR allowed the police state to confiscate gold.

Do they have the right? NO. But they are willing to use force and deadly force against you, your dog, your wife and your kids to force their will.

The question is are you willing to use it back?

You all DO realize that, all it will take is ONE person or a small group of law-abiding gun owners that say "NO" to this GUN policy to ignite this smouldering powder keg. Then, when the US Military starts killing US civilians, it'll all goto hell in about a week. It'll make Ruby Ridge look like a church picnic and take years to settle down. A whole lot of folks are a whole lot more serious about this gun-grab stuff, at least a few that I've spoken with, than I care to mention.
Do you think the US military would follow orders to shoot armed civilians whos only crime was that they didn't give up their guns when they came to confiscate them? Would you?

i often think of two things when faced with the idea of confiscation.
1.) How many of us, while sitting at home with the wife, kids, and dog, will go down in a hail of gunfire in front of their families, rather than give them up. I know what Id do, but im not married with kids. How many of us, faced with the actual choice of laying down arms and living or keeping arms and dying by the hands of our own LEO or Mil?
2.) Would our Military and LEO members carry out orders to disarm the people? Would they say "**** that, i am defending our constitution, and will not carry out these orders" Or, would they stay loyal to superiors and do as they are told? Id assume most would not, but its a valid question.
