The confiscation begins!!!
So, my jack booted best friend manage to confiscate THREE guns from a CCDW permit holder last night. A Smith chambered in .357 Sig, a Ruger chambered in. 40 and a Maverick 12ga. And, he's going to try to ensure the man can't ever carry a gun again. Let the fun begin; long live the JBT's.
Of course, the idiot he arrested was blasting rounds off in his back yard, in a very urban area....and said he didn't know he couldn't do it. Dumbass got held at gunpoint for his stupidity and is currently a guest at my fine establishment. Hopefully, he'll lose his permit and his guns (they're auctioned off by law here in KY, not destroyed) for his punishment. Stupid should hurt. Extreme stupidity should hurt bad, and have long lasting consequences.
By the way, Russ - can I cross post in CI, or would that be wrong?

Yes, this one time. It will be interesting to see if those who carry condone, or accept, seizure and loss of property as appropriate consequences for that behavior.

Unless he invited you onto his private property, you had no right to be there.

Perhaps, but I also sense a definite lack of probably cause. He was on his own property, after all. He can do whatever he wants. Right? Riiiiiiiiight?

What was the charge? I grew up shooting in what some would consider an urban area.

I was shooting into the ground last night. Didn't have any JBT visitors. They were probably too busy shooting into the air to stop by.

You should always know the laws in the areas that you shoot. Many cities and urban areas have laws against the discharge of a firearm, private property or not. Many rural areas do not. In my rural area, as long as you are discharging the firearm in a safe manner, there is not a law to prohibit it and the county and state police are aware of this. I also know a local judge and a few lawyers and they confirmed this. If he broke the law, he should be punished. Pretty straight forward to me.
How does the saying go? Ignorance of the law does not exempt one from it.
