Why is everyone hoarding 22lr
I was shocked to see now all 22lr is completely out of stock. Why is everyone hoarding 22lr when it's the last round to be banned. Shouldn't everyone be focusing on the "assault weapons rounds" (not my name for military rounds that fit civilian firearms)

Because they want to shoot and their preferred caliber is unavailable

Because that's the one caliber you can't reload.

Cheap to shoot easier to lug around I suspect.

Cause you can never have enough. I have ~3500 rounds and feel understocked in it.

because you may use 9 or 45 to protect yourself but you use .22 to protect yourself/hunt/practice/introduce new and young shooters.

I have Three .22's and three ammo cans full of ammo for them.
This isnt the first and it wont be the last time these nitwits get thr bright idea to ban guns, ammo or magazines.

I shoot .22 all day cheaply and only need to fire a mag or two of the larger calibers to keep in practice.

I had trouble finding it for two months. It's the only caliber I buy since I reload the rest.
When I found it in stock I grabbed another 2500 rounds

I have been buying it when I see a deal for a long time because:
I shoot it the most.
You cannot reload it.
If the SHTF it will be currency.

As much as I like Walmart's prices, I am not entirely convinced that Walmart is the best source for gauging overall availability. At least around here they seem to restock haphazardly compared to any of several gun stores.

I stocked on everything else before election time. When everyone was buying up 223 I was grabbing 22LR. Can't under estimate having enough for plinking and various roles.

Since 2008, I've just been picking up a box about once per month. It allows me to to keep well practiced for very little money. I'm currently down around 4-5000 in my stash right now.
How many thought far enough ahead to load up on 25 round mags for their 10/22's?

I think with the down economy people are switching to cheaper ways of doing the same thing. With the panic buying going on I can see people who want to shoot but can't find centerfire switching to .22 just to be able to hit the range.

Because when it costs $2/round to load .223 after tax, and none of the local fair-weather guys can find factory center fire pistol ammo, we're going to be putting on rimfire events again.
...and I'm not really hoarding it, just building a supply.

Why is everyone hoarding 22lr
|
Because the price keeps going up. I'd rather shoot $14 bulk pack 22LR than $21 bulk pack.
Kind of the same reason I have a lot of $1.00 a can Campbell's Chunky Soup when now the same thing is selling for about twice as much.
Same reason I have a lot of $70/1,000 round case 7.62x39 ammo.
The concept of buying in bulk when stuff is on sale, or before the price increases, seems to be mostly unheard of now days.
When it looked like obama would be voted in, a friend and I were at the gun show.
We were trying to decide if we should buy a lot of bullets, or a WHOLE LOT of bullets.
My friend said, "If you don't like the prices now you are really going to hate them next year".
We bought everything the dealer had in our calibers and were glad we did.

I'm surprised how scarce it is down here, and I couldn't find any 25 round mags for the new Mossberg 715 I got. I had to get them straight from Mossberg. Seems 22lr is going as quick as .233/5.56. My brother got a Colt AR in a raffle and can't get mags or ammo for it. Luckily I had 2 small boxes so he can atleast blast a couple rounds.

Not everyone is buying to keep. Some are buying to flip.

I ordered about 7K of .22lr about 3 weeks ago because I was sick of going to a Walmart and seeing that they were out of stock. I was down to about 1500 left, so instead of waiting for Walmart, I ordered online for about the same price. I'm good for a while.
