That's it I'm taking Tactical Response' fighting pistol class as soon as I get the chance. Anybody who is *****ed about this much is worth checking out. I bet I'll actually end up learning a lot about using a pistol as a fighting tool and be a better shot in the end even though he is so hated by a lot of people here.

I don't think anyone hates him.

I don't hate him, but I've had enough tier one instruction over the years, to know tier five or six instruction when I see it.

But, it's your money.

A lotta people sure did get upset about James Yeager even though they shouldn't. He appears to be successful with his business regardless of whether or not he knows what he is talking about, or whether his classes are any good.

I stand by my original point. I am sure that the stuff he spews out on Facebook and in forums is calculated to grow his business and get him more customers.

I'm pretty sure he likes 1911's. Especially when he gets one free from Wilson Combat!

Now I don't agree with everything he says but most of his info is pretty good. Who would you recommend to for a pistol class?

You'll definitely learn something, and you will be a better shot. Years ago, when he was with OPS, I took a specialized class at Rangemaster in Membabwe. I was definitely a better shot.

Jim Yeager is a same hole shooter with pistols he's never shot before. He did with one of mine. I would have jokingly accused him of shooting wide and pretending same hole, but the hole was slightly elongated from the second shot.

Not only can he do it, he can teach it. If you find that "Breaking bad habits" thread from T&T years ago, you'll see his input. Glockfaq.com had the info under trigger 101, or something like that.

If you can get passed the attitude and ego, you WILL learn a lot. Just be sure to use a Glock, and shoot modern ISO. You'll be buddies in no time.

I would be interested in hearing if the subject of Iraq comes up.

He may have screwed up in Iraq but that's not for me to judge or comment on. I think he also likes the M&P platform now. Every video I've seen he either has a Glock 19 or a Shield.

Again, I don't agree with all the stuff he posts in his videos but most of the core material he posts is good info.

In no particular order:

John Shaw
Mas Ayoob
Paul Howe
Kyle Lamb
Southnarc

There are plenty of legitimate firearms instructors who don't need to puff up their resume or create controversy to garner attention.

I would advise against taking his "High Risk Civilian Manual Transmission\Emergency Brake Operator" class......

but otherwise, it's probably pretty good training.

ETA: trainers are always looking for a different way of doing things for bragging rights, so anything they teach that doesn't seem ideal, may not be. Remember that there are proven techniques, and just because someone teaches something different, doesn't mean it's better, just that the instructors opinion is different. Use your instincts.

As for your previous question of good instructors. Tom Givens, Rangemaster in Memphis, is about as good as they come. If you ever get a chance to train with him, take it. He does a lot in Okrahoma.

If you think much of this is advertising, you don't know much about marketing.

Why? As they say in Hollywood No news is bad news. Those that hate him were never going to go to one of his classes anyway. Those that love him are going to keep defending him. Someone who has never head of him before now knows who he is. Next year some of them will remember his name as a gun guru. He is bound to get some business out of it.

Hollywood? No news? That's a head scratcher.

Did you mean 'any publicity is good publicity'?

A celebrity getting their name in the paper, bad or good, is one thing. A personal defense instructor being called a coward, and having his methods and abilities called into question on gun boards where potential customer frequent, is quite another. In personal defense training, reputation is everything.

Last time I checked he was still in business.

Because up until now this was only known to a small group of personnel. Mostly past and present military and police. But now if you want we can really tell the rest of the world what a coward James Yeager really is.
