Replacing a i-pad screen?

My grandson broke the screen on his i-pad and I was wondering how hard it is to replace it myself. If it's too hard I'd have it replaced.

My neighbor replaced his, himself and watched him do it.

It's not terribly complicated but you DO need to be careful when praying the glass off. There's a thin power ribbon cable that will tear if you're not careful.

There are a couple of YouTube videos that he watched prior to doing it. He saved himself over $150 doing it himself.

It's not hard, but can take a while. It did for me at least, but it was probably because I was being very careful.

Look around on youtube for your particular model and you can see how it's done. You can pick up the glass on ebay or Amazon. You will need the tape as well. Make sure to try and get the yellow tape, the black tape isn't as good.

And even if you don't need it now, I recommend you pick up a bezel and tape for that as well since it'll probably get broken. But it is also possible to wait and see if you end up needing to replace it.

You are also going to need a hairdryer or heat gun.

If you have questions I can try to answer them, but the youtube videos should answer most of your questions.

Thanks guys. I found a place a couple miles from here that charges ~$175 for the glass installation. Guess I'll eat the $75 and have them do it. I already KNOW the look in his eyes when I screw something up.
