Possibly Uselful PC Info

In today's paper (The Tampa Bay Times) the PC guru's column had two interesting notes. One was that there is a free program that allows Windows 8 users to have a folder-based interface (along with the familiar Start button) as well as the tiles one, with the tiles being just a click away. It's called Classic Shell (classicshell.sourceforge.net).

The other noted that Windows 8 comes with a robust built-in antivirus called (again) Windows Defender, and you need to first disable it if you want to install a third-party antivisur solution.

Of course, I take no responsibility for what the author publishes.

The classic shell is well known. I think there are actually several of them. As for Defender, I have read on a couple of forums that it causes problems on many machines. The general recommendation is to disable it.
