How many AR's are too many??

I thought I had enough...I stumbled upon a Colt 6920 at what appears to be a pretty good deal.

I don't have a Colt. Is that all I need to say??? LOL

Problem isn't how many you have but how much can you feed them. With the costs of ammo I have several AR's sitting cause I can't afford to shoot them. Though I suppose a Colt will fetch $ when the threat of another ban happens in a few years.

That's what I'm thinking. I haven't even shot a Colt and obviously don't have one.

Let's ask Mr. Owl? If you got the disposable income and you want it, get some.

I've found 4 is too many for me. Too many other cool guns I want to shoot.

Tommy Tactical version
Lightweight A2 / KISS version
Long barrel varmint version

Covers all the bases I want an AR to cover.

Too many for you might vary quite a bit.

As mentioned above, the question in my mind becomes...is it really worth buying another one when I don't have enough ammo to utilize the ones I have?

Take a system approach. Look at your firearms, spare parts, replacement parts, magazines, ammo...if you were stuck with more or less what you already have, what would your limiting factor be in continued shooting, training, etc, from here on out?

If it would be ammo, and you already have at least two of the firearm in question (two is one, one is none) OR you have a bunch of spare parts and replacement parts to the point where you don't worry about the one becoming inoperable...maybe consider putting that money towards ammo instead of another gun.

Buy 'em and stash 'em.

Someday they might all get banned by unconstitutional laws.

I have 3 now and I am satisfied. I have bought and sold many to get where I am now.
1. DD M4 V5 LW that is my home defense AR.
2. DD Ambush 6.8 that I bought for deer and hogs.
3. Remington R15 that I have as a varmint/coyote rig.

I feel that my AR bases are covered with those 3.

How many AR's are too many??

Five.... One for everyone in my immediate family plus one SPR... Then there's all the others.....

While collecting is fine. It would make more sense to keep rifles and ammo sizes the same so you can stock more parts and ammo. But it's easy to go off the path.

I had eleven at one point. Dwindled down to two, now I am up to six with two stripped receivers.

You have too many when you become bored with them or you can't afford them. Don

3.

I have one "serious" AR, back up, and a range toy.

Anything over 3 AR-15's is just money wasted and could be used to buy ammo/parts/pay bills/other weapons platforms etc... IMOYMMVMTFBWYOMGWTFBBQ!!!

I find that one is plenty, but you can't have too many.

The key is to use them. So many people constantly buy guns without ever running them. That's cruel to the poor guns.

Within the last month I was able to score 5000 Hornady 55 gr FMJ bullets, 8# of powder and 5000 primers (besides what I had on hand). The stuff is out there, you just have to look.

I reload .223 for $0.18 per round or $180/1000.

I haven't bought factory ammo in a very long time but I think, even in good times, $180/1000 is a pretty good price. There is probably enough savings to justify just about any type of reloading equipment you want.

Yes, I'm promoting reloading! How else can you work through these trying times?

Richard

I have 2 currently:

Preban Colt A2 sporter with a 20" barrel. Original A2 furniture replaced with Magpul Moe Forend and Magpul UBR stock. Great increase in usability and flexibility (wife is 5' tall, I am 6'4").

I really like the UBR stock and it works great with rifles (as apposed to carbines)

General Firearms Forum

Currently building up a stripped lower into a dual caliber rifle (5.56 and .300 AAC). Got the takedown AR kit from Buds and am currently shopping uppers. The BCM 16" Lightweight middy is looking more and more like the right choice. Will need to add a .300 AAC short barrel (10") and an ATF $200 tax stamp to complete the build.
