I had a pair of Danner Patrol boots...they were so heavy, hot, and uncomfortable, I just can't imagine what the Acadias would be like.
I looked extensively at the Corcorans, but they're all 10-inch boots, and my calfs are so big that taller boots are usually a problem. I really liked these though:
I really wanted something waterproof and without a zipper, but I couldn't find anything meeting those specs, so I ordered these:
I like the way they look better than the Rockys. After 20% off and free shipping they were $88.
My supervisor was in the USCG, and he has a pair of the Rockys styled like what he wore in the military (they weren't Rockys though, I forget who he said made them). They look sharp as hell, and that's why I wanted a pair. I've been wearing Magnum Viper IIs, and they were super comfortable and dry but "squeaked" when walking, and they wore out after a year. They also don't look good with a dress uniform.
These Thorogoods don't meet my own specs, but I figured I'd give them a try since what I want doesn't seem to be out there. I hope I didn't waste my money, and I may regret the lack of waterproofing at some point. On the other hand, wearing "shiny shoes" on dayshift rarely left me with wet feet.
I usually wear boots at night with BDUs, and clarino chukkas on dayshift with the dress uniform, but starting in January I'm going to a split shift and will be in a "regular" uniform all the time, So, I thought that the look, styling, and utility of the Patatrooper-style boots might be the best of both worlds.
