Although Milspec isn't bad, it's not everything it's touted to be. There are plenty of non Milspec AR's out there that run just fine and never have problems.

There are also many AR's out there that are built to exceed the Milspec that in my opinion, are built even better.

Milspec is just that. It's a spec. It's a good base point for some things but I've found that most of them don't matter as all my AR's weather they are Milspec or not all run just fine.

My opinion on the whole Milspec thing:

(Don't worry, I used to think it was the do all, end all too. It's ok though. Some day those people that still think Milspec is everything will learn otherwise too.)

And no, it doesn't have to have a Pony on it or cost over $3,000 to be a good AR. (Contrary to what the typical fan boys will have you think.)

Now don't get me wrong. There are still some companies that do it better than others. Take Colt for instance. What I think sets them apart from the others is they pay great attention to detail and do use good quality parts. You know what your getting when you get a Colt.

(As of late, Windham Weaponry seems to be running neck and neck with Colt. I know that's gonna piss off some fan boys!)

Some other brands may need some minor things done to them to be on the safe side but those are little things that aren't any big deal. They haven't been a big deal for me yet!

Most of the problems I've personally seen with AR's that didn't run right out of the box was due to improper assembly.

Again, minor things. Sure, the gun should be put together properly from the factory but as long as the parts are of good quality, I can fix those small things and have a good rifle for less money.

With all that said, I've had more issues with one brand over all the others but all have had minor problems and minor parts breakages over the years. Still, they were all things that can come to be expected from any gun that's shot a lot.

No brand is immune to parts failures or malfunctions with use. If you never have those issues, your not shooting your rifle enough. They all do it and if yours hasn't, it will sooner or later.

Brand isn't the issue that many people make it out to be. Yes, some are better than others but not by much as you might think. (Despite what many of the die hard brand X fan boys will have you believe.)

Piss off? Nope

Windham isn't much better than what they built before.

All I know is that the lowest bidder builds to "mil-spec".

My favorite is how some throw around the phrase "fan boy." I've found it's the guys/gals who don't shoot all that much.

I also don't understand how people can still be spewing the "they think you have to spend $3000 to get a good AR." I have never seen that here. In fact I see just the opposite of that time after time.

The same goes w/ the milspec talk. I have never seen anyone recommend milspec or nothing or milspec as the end all.

Misconceptions and made up stuff.

It saddens me to know some of our Law Enforcement officers are this childish and immature.

When you shoot a fair amount it gets easier to tell who does and who doesn't

Most are very respectable and quite well behaved. There are exceptions like w/ all things. I however don't believe this guy is any of the above.

First off, this thread has been quite entertaining to read. And of course, a few of the regular fire starters have made an appearance.

Exactly right. I rarely see anyone mention COLT (except the people making fun of the "fanboys") as an option for a newbie to AR's. In fact, when I first came to this forum, people suggested the M&P Sport to me. I don't understand where people are getting these preconceived notions a bout the BRF, but their wrong.

Well, you only have to be 21 to be a police officer...

I was in Iraq with a Knight's Armament made M16A4. Seemed mil-spec enough for me.

Mike is correct. The only thing KAC about the M16A4 is the gangsta grip and rail.
