Just whipped up a letter to reps regarding gun control. Thoughts?
I just whipped up the following letter to be sent to some of my representatives. I am also going to send it to people on my facebook to use. Obviously, anyone on here is more than welcome to it also. Please share your thoughts on it or if i should change or add anything. I just whipped it up in five minutes so be gentle please!
Dear [Recipient Name]:
I am writing to urge you to resist ANY attempt by gun control advocates to further restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding American citizens. As you may or may not know, previous assault weapon bans have largely proven to be ineffective to reduce crime or reduce mass shootings. As a concerned, freedom loving American I feel that any such bans will simply lead to further firearms restrictions until all firearms are banned.
I am a very well informed voter and am pretty well known throughout my community, friends, and family for my political beliefs. I PROMISE you that ANY support you give to ANY new type of assault weapons ban will result in you losing my vote FOREVER! I will also actively campaign against you and for your opponent in ANY election even if it is not a vote in my district. Even if your opponent is even more anti firearms than you, I will still do my best to make sure you lose that election because any vote for further erosion of the rights of law abiding citizens is UNFORGIVEABLE in my book.
I urge you again; PLEASE do not support ANY new assault weapons ban or ban that restricts magazine capacity, firearm types, firearm characteristics, etc. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Argue your position with threats? Not very convincing.

They are politicians. The only thing that has any impact on them is the loss of their position. Threats are appropriate and necessary.

I think your examples make your argument weaker and desperate sounding. A simple "you will lose my support if you support anti-gun legislation" is sufficient. Making it sound like a 5th grader who will take their ball and go home isn't very swaying.

Perhaps you could say something like - I support the 2nd Amendment and can not in anyway support someone who doesn't. I will however actively support the pro-2A candidate in the next election, regardless of political party affiliation.
I do appreciate your effort. We all need to send congress a message.

Changed the second paragraph to this:
I support the 2nd Amendment and will not in any way support ANY candidate that infringes on my 2nd Amendment rights. I will also ACTIVELY campaign against ANY incumbent, regardless of party, that does not defend the 2nd Amendment.

Having been in positions where I deal with this kind of correspondence, I can assure you, this will keep your letter out of the "crazies" pile.

You did better than my typical letter to Congress. .
Mine normally start out:
{Name of Sen/Rep} you ignorant slut. .
And go down hill from there

+1
However, make it clear that you will not vote for anyone that votes for more gun control, ever, under any circumstances.
Make it also clear that you have money to donate in the next election, and it will be sent to supporters of the RKBA.
Good luck y'all.
