Behold, the Rock Island Armory 5" 10mm 1911
I thought I'd post a picture of my dad's new pistol. Although I have not seen it in person, it appears to be a well-built and competitively priced 10mm 1911. I'll be helping him work through any kinks he may or may not run into, but it appears that it will just be the typical 100-200 round break-in period.
Here's a quick snapshot of the pistol... Not bad for $600 (and it has a ramped barrel, to boot!)
Range report forthcoming!

Have one coming in tomorrow. Will be putting it through its paces. Just wish it was a long slide.

That looks pretty good. Did you order it online, and if so, where? Now, if they'd make it a double stack...

I don't know the story you're referring to... but I know that my Dad couldn't find one anywhere else and they had him the pistol is 48 hours after ordering.... so, I guess they did okay.

Ahh ... I was not aware. They might not be in good financial shape... or, it could be something else. Who knows.

Before shooting, you going to drop in a 20, or 22 LB spring?

Well, as the pistol is my Dad's, not mine, I still haven't handled it. When I do, I'll be able to tell what the approx poundage is on the stock spring. I'm sure they put at LEAST an 18lb spring in and probably a 20lb spring. Will find out on the 28th when I handle it. Even then, it will stay stock until we decide whats best for it.
I'll probably eventually press him to install an EGW flat bottomed FPS and a 20lb spring (if the stock spring is too light or junk). We will see!

IIRC from the reviews I've seen it's only a 16#.

I've heard somewhere in the 13-14 pound range. I'd have a 20/22 pounder at the ready! If it slings brass in the 20' range, the heavier would be dropped in asap.

You guys know a heavy recoil spring is not the right way to slow down the slide in a 1911, right?
Keep the stock recoil spring, and install a flat bottom firing pin stop. If that's not enough, install an extra power hammer spring. Then, only after doing those two, if you still need more, go for the heavy recoil spring.
Just a heavy recoil spring by itself is hard on the barrel bottom lugs.

Yep, although 16 is a bit light... 20lb is still "light" for 10mm IMHO so I stick with EGW FPS and a 20kb spring. Increased power mainsprings always make my trigger bad so I leave em stock.
1911s and Glocks are definitely two different beasts in a lot of ways.

My dad said it felt "light and smooth" which to me means its prob lighter than 18... So if that's the case ill book him up with what he needs

Nick & I both shot it between rain and snow storms....I READ that it comes with a 14 lb recoil spring. Obviously very light....I have a note into RIA cust service about the ONLY problem I have. AND, I have a 20 lb recoil spring ordered today, just in case. 'My ONLY problem is the slide lock is engaging itself during mid-magazine firing....It does it to me and it does it to nickE10mm as well....Otherwise, I am EXTREMELY happy with this pistol .....Best trigger from a "box gun" I've ever had....I'm sure the slide lock problem is not that big of deal......If you get one of these, get your bent paperclip ready.....lol....I'm loving it. Still have my Glock 20, but I do appreciate a pretty gun in lieu of "the black brick".......LOL...

We will get the plunger pin-facing side of your slide stop lightly dimpled if relieving the inside face of the stop pin (where the bullet nose is contacting it during recoil) doesn't fix it.
I'm a little upset we didn't get to 1) chrony your loads, 2) shoot the AR, or 3) use your micrometer to measure my Bisley cylinder throats down to the ten-thousandth of an inch for my project. I was also gonna DETAIL strip your RIA to give you a firsthand view but that's no biggie.
Anyhow, good to be back home! Ahhhhhhhh - gotta clean my G29 and SBH tomorrow after work...

Will do. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed with the Rock Island 10mm. It comes across as a fantastic value with high-quality parts used, including a high quality ramped barrel. Case support looked excellent and we experienced NO stoppages not related to early slide locking issues which we are currently resolving.
