New Glock 29

I finally decided to get a 29 over a 20. I am to small to conceal a 20 AND could not find one anyways. I got this brand new for...541.00 out the door. Another reason I had to buy it. Currently being carried with Cor-Bon 150gr HP

I would like to get an extended barrel, upgrade the sights, and most likely put a Streamlight trl-2 on. With some mag extensions. All while pushing the biggest fastest bullets at hogs I can.

I am open to any and all advice on recommendations. This will be an EDC and woods gun. The Trl-2 hopefully will work well with the Red filter in a holster (night hunting).

Here she is.. I am not great at uploading or taking photos, Advise there too wouldn't kill me.

Love my G29 but I'm not real sure about the TLR-2 because POA/POI can get pretty tricky. Can you run just a TLR-1 and shoot 180's thru it?

The whole thing with the light and laser is for quicker target acquisition at night. With the chances of shooting with one hand or just trying to get a better kill shot.

One thing I have wondered is how well the laser would even show up with a red filter on the light. There isn't always someone around with a spotlight plus just trying to do something different.

Sometimes a rifle isn't always easy to get to quickly and quietly or to dark to see the reticle if someone isnt spotlighting right.

The G20 mags can be finicky in the G29, my experience. When run 'naked' as regular G20 mags, not too much trouble if you don't start using he extra length as extra grip. But, in my experience, if you install the plastic sleeves so they look cool, then you may see some problems. But again, I think this is really due to the natural inclination to actually use that extra grip. I could be imagining things--but I find I get the very best reliability with G29 mags in the G29.

Can't help with the laser thing--I have no use at all for them and personally feel they are like training wheels--serving no function at all except to retard training. But, as for sights, I'm a huge Trijicon fan and have installed them on just about everything including the G29.

Congratulations on buying the very best personal defense pistol available anywhere at any price. Seriously. The G29 is, for me, the best personal defense pistol money can buy. And I don't really like Glocks all that much.

As I reflect on my decisions I've made--selling a beautifully customized Sig P220, shelving the M&P 45c, seldom carrying the Kahr K40--to favor the G29 as my EDC didnt happen due to brand loyalty, that's for sure. In fact whenever I see stock photos of the thing I really wonder how anything can be so friggin' ugly.

But the proof is in the shooting..and in the carrying. I will only carry something else if I feel I have to, and that means the tiny K40. The G29 cannot be beaten by anything on the market, my opinion. Did I mention I like this gun?

When you get to the point in life, like me, where you have to start wearing spectacles just to read a newspaper, then the laser starts to become more appealing. When I'm at the range, with my 29, It becomes real aggravating to have to put on and take off those dag nab glasses. I can't focus on the sights without them and I can't focus on the target with them, so it really sucks. And bifocals are worthless because the sights are directly in line with my eyes and the POI.

As for the G20 mags in a G29, I have to agree with Bongo Boy. But my problems usually start when I start shooting the hot stuff. If I stick with 40 S&W power 10mm then the G20 mag works just fine. Put in the Underwood, and it won't feed right. I find it amazing that the G29 mags feed it all without problems. I had to put a G21 mag spring in my G30 mag to get it to feed 45 Super.

For my 29sf I installed Lasermax internal guide rod laser. Flawless after 2000+ rounds of my hand loads 165 gr at 1395 ft/ sec out of a 4.6 inch KKM barrel for the 29. When I carry have the OEM barrel installed. Have heine straight eight night sights and use a stream light tlr 3 at times. Works well for me. Awesome weapon

I have actually seen lasers be used as great training tool for dry fire. Noticing shakes, drawing from holster POA impact WITHOUT firing a real round.

I only intend on, at this time, using the light and laser for a hunting toy.

I too don't have the best vision especially at night.

That's a really good price, around here the lowest I can find is about $570 and that's before taxes. I've been eyeballing a Gen4 29 to go along with my Gen4 20, might pick one up some day.

Seems you guys are getting great prices--my memory isn't the greatest but I think I paid $625 for mine. I do understand the eyesight thing--and think red dots are a wonderful development--but I suppose far less practical than a laser for a carry gun.

I sure can't argue against a laser if they work for a shooter, and I don't mean to be so irritatingly opinionated. I should have said "i don't care for them" or not said anything at all. Anyone who finds a solution for the failing eyesight has got to be happy--it's driving me nuts, too.

It's really more of an issue for me at the indoor range when often there's a big old red dot from someone's laser bouncing all over the place including my target. Makes a fella kinda nervous--but I guess you could argue that it's better to know where the other shooter's muzzle is pointing than not to know.

Ha! I get nervous just knowing that I am in an enclosed area with people I have never met that have live loaded weapons on them!

Congrats on the G29. I absolutely love mine. I haven't put a lot of rounds through it yet but what I have, ran great.

What are you guys using for a carry load?

I use my own load.

12.4gr VV-N105, CCI LP, New Starline brass, 180gr XTP.

Yields 1245 fps out of the stock G29SF. I shoot this load a little better out of my G29SF than I do my stock G20SF, no idea why.

I also have Truglo TFO Green/Yellow lights on my Glocks, great low light sights.

Just picked up my 29. Already had tfo sites and a vanek trigger waiting for it, like my 20. Love it, no malfunctions with me shooting. Had a couple ftf with my daughter, really light loads and limp wrist. Probably like 300 ftlbs loads. Good thing was even with stock rsa still ran light loads for me. My 20 has 13# for light loads. Got it for the blue label price, very cheap. The 3 month wait sucked.
