G19 Gen3 vs Gen 4

Gak! Not the dreaded "Gen 3 vs. Gen 4" again!

There...I've "self-flamed"...

Now...I am (as you can see) a noob here, and I've read as many threads as I can -- and done research, and watched endless YouTube-ers.

I am going to buy a G19, and the Gen 4 is $50 more than the Gen 3. The price difference is not a big deal (you do get an extra mag!), and I certainly wouldn't mind paying it for a better gun!!

What concerns me (based on what I've been reading) about the Gen 4:
  1. BTF/erratic ejection/jams
  2. larger mag release would seem -- to me (disclaimer: I've not fired either one) to be more prone to accidental release...I've read that might be a concern re: holstered G19's (some LEOs have had them modified to prevent a drawn weapon from becoming a "one-shot wonder"
so...please bear with yet another rookie asking these sorts of questions and summarize for me Gen 3 vs Gen 4 -- especially any other G4 issues.

Thanks!

Better is subjective. You know all the difference between the two just make a choice. You can't go wrong either way. Me personally? Gen3 why? Trigger feel....

My experience, my Gen 3 G19 was worse than my Gen 4 G19. I had weak, erratic ejection, BTF and a few FTFeed though it was only 3 in 2000 rounds or so it that was a non issue. My Gen 4 does have some weak/erratic ejection but it's much, much less than my Gen 3. Rarely do I get BTF with my Gen 4 G19. It's personal preference though, some like the thicker grips. I prefer the Gen 4 grip and the larger magazine extractor.

Welcome
I would suggest a Gen 2 or Gen 3 manufactured prior to 12/06,so that means a used gun and their are some very little used ones out there. Prices are almost that of a new Gen 3 but you will end up with Glock Perfection not perfection. SJ 40

Trigger feel is better on the 3. BTF ejection can be good or bad
on either.

I don't like the RTF or the supersize mag release on the 4.

Many parts are G4 only where G 123 are for the most part
interchangable.

All this gen4 19 smack makes me wanna go shoot my Gen4 19 for the first time. I have owned it for months. A year maybe? I should run a few hundred and report back...

I own and shoot both G3/G4 G19. Never had an issue with either. Totally personal. I carry a G4 23 in a duty rig. No problem with larger mag button. Never heard of this.

I have a Gen 3 G17 Gen 3 26 and Gen 4 G19 and i love them all!! My absolute favorite part about the Gen 4 is the different grip. I personally like the Gen 4 grip better but personally I shoot them all the same. I believe shooting is all on the shooter, not the gun. But I do like then Gen 4 grip the best

I carry my Gen3 G17 as my duty weapon and carried my Gen 4 G19 for a few weeks in my same duty rig. Had absolutely no issues with the larger mag release nor have any of my co-workers. I would say you are good with any one you choose.

I read that somewhere...not sure where (could have been a YT video...they are all blurred together in my feeble brain).

I remember that the LEO was unable to do anything about it, but had to wait for the PD armorer to make the fix.

I will yield to a provisional "BS" since I can't provide citation. But it does seem plausible, no?

How about Glock 19 to the 6th power (oh and I like the no back strap and texture on the 4 but prefer the Gen 3 mag release. That being said I could go with either or)

Simply put, gen 3. Established track record of doing exactly what they're supposed to. Gen4 may be better now with the new RSA's and ejectors, but I'm just not sold on them yet. So long as gen3's are still available, that's what I'll be picking up.

Gen4 mag release is wider, but not longer than a Gen3, so I don't see mag's releasing from the gun as an issue. Hasn't happend to any of my Gen4's anyways.

I have no issue with it releasing because its longer, heck I add the extended on the Gen 3 there but the wider part on the Gen 4 (maybe its just my hands) just irritates/scratches up against sometimes. Everyone is different, personal preference.
