Lifetime PC user - just picked up first MacBook. DONE WITH PC.

I grew up with the viruses, bluescreens, and disposable hardware of PC. This year, I had enough and I joined the cult of Apple with a new MacBook Pro.

What a machine! I cannot see how I will ever go back. And the Apple store was the exact opposite of going to Best Buy: a great retail experience; no pressure; no noise; no warranties to buy - in an out in literally 15 minutes.

Look at my baby:

Fanboy! LOL

Enjoy. Go online and find/learn the shortcuts and the "ways" Mac does stuff vs. PC. The good news is every 4 years you don't have to re-learn a new OS when MS decides to completely redesign Windows.

Is it Intel based shipset? If yes, then you have not gone far from PC. You will still get viruses and vulnerabilities.

I can't wait for my new 27" iMac in this Jan.....

Later, I might build a PC console to just play few of high edge games using the iMac's display. I heard a rumor that there is a development where you could just hook up the thunderbold with external GPU hardware (I can't wait for that!).

You could have gotten a faster, better machine for about 1/4 the price, but congrats!

I don't keep any big programs or games; the machine is mostly for web browsing, Word, and a few photos here and there.

256 GB is plenty, no?

I've had the same Macbook Pro since 2006. Had the software updated and battery/charger replaced a couple of years ago. Other than that no viruses, spyware, blue screens, crashes etc...ever. My last PC was such a hassle I got sick of it. Anti-virus software alerts popping constantly, and taking forever just to boot up. Its my understanding that MAC programming is just not hacker friendly making viruses and the like less effective.

The computer world is much more MAC friendly these days, considerably more so than even just a few years ago.

MAC is the way to go.

Don't worry they are poor and they couldn't afford a MAC product.

Microsoft will go out of business in a decade from now. Business and Educations are swapping PC to Mac.

I am typing this on a mid 2010 macbook pro that I upgraded recently to 8gb of ram and put in a 512 crucial SSD.

Seems to be working fine for me...

That's one of the things that ultimately brought me to Apple. Their stuff is simply well-made. Solid. My MacBook has an all-metal body and a glass screen.

My wife's MacBook is almost eight years old and still runs as well as the day she bought it. Say that for a PC machine.

I've got two new 27inch IMacs coming Monday. One is a i7 GTX680mx with 1tb fusion drive and I'm installing 32gb of ram. The other is a base 27inch I bought for my parents.

I've been a on again off again Apple user for the past 15 years. My PC finally crapped out and I was sick of fixing it.

What's the big deal with memory upgrade? Took a screwdriver and about 10 minutes to add 8 GB of RAM to my iMAC. Works great. Did I miss something?

Absolute nonsense. The only thing the intel switch did was aid compatibility with opening and saving as ms docs, wp and speadsheet. Chip has zero to do with viruses or not.
