Latest issue of American Rifleman has an article on the .22 mag for self defense with gel tests from 1" and 2" barreled guns.

posted from my stupid smart phone, please excuse any spelling mistakes.

Any thing from a Kel Tec PMR 30 available ... thanks for the source info and I will try to access online ... I have one of these 30 round lightweight pistols ... considering it for primary carry vs my G21 ... light is nice ... as long as it hits hard enough ...

Thanks again for the time spent in replying

I have heard the newest ammo hits as hard as a .38 special. I carry gold dots in my small 5 shot. It's my yard gun.

Thanks for the anecdotal info ... per the ballistic Gel test in the American Rifleman I was linked to by another member the Gold Dot and the Hornady Critical Defense have similar hit values ... the Gold dot is lighter so it's faster ... both from 1.8 inch barrels ... they said there is a max out between 2 and 4.5 inch barrels in pistol play ... a hit from a 4.5 inch barrel has to be a MF ... penetration is more than 14 inches from a 1,8 inch barrel through a layer of denim

I figure with a 30 round mag my PMR 30 can go down town ... have a NAA .22 WIN MAG with over sized grips ... nice little puncher ...

Thanks again for your input ...

Any one else out there have TAC info on this load?

The .22 mag from a rifle hits like a .38 special from a hand gun.

From a 2" handgun the .22 mag hits about like a .22lr from a rifle.

The longer barrel of the pm30 should help quite a bit. The AR article also tested longer barrel pistol
