I'm glad to hear most of you like the team concept. I really do think that the pros do seem to outweigh the cons but I have to agree with articulate. I think in our case there is a good chance of failure with the team stuff. It was pretty much thrown together at the last possible second and is being implimented with extremely short staffing. There is ZERO relief factor built into the team system in my District. If I remember correctly my Commander stated he estimated us to be 13 Officers short to really make this work but the Chiefs did not care and said to make it work anyway.

My team will actually be running short for at least 6 months and possibly be two down for most the year if one of the guys on my team gets a promotion that opened up recently.

If someone gets sick and someone is already on vacation we are below minimum staffing as established by command and have to have someone from the previous shift stay over and someone from the next come in early.

That is the result of the city shorting us on people, a bloated top heavy command and too many people in special units.

Ya it really only works well if you have a good number of officers and sergeants that establish a reasonable minimum staffing level.

Our team is 13 officers and we decided as a team with our sergeant that 6 would be our minimum staffing. Rarely if ever do we only have 6 that show up for a shift though, usually 1-2 on vacation a week or at some kind of training and guys hardly ever call in sick. It works well, the main thing is to discuss it with sergeant and not let your whole team ask off (like during holidays)
