That's one fugly beast. And you gave the police ALL of the pictures?

Those poor, poor bastards. You'll be lucky if they don't charge you with assaulting an officer, once they can see again. They're probably scarred for life now.

Seriously though, I hope they get them. Maybe you can get back all your stuff if they're the ones who got into your place, or can point the police at the ones who did.

This is the first time I have ever heard of some thing like this. I hope they get caught.

Keep checking the pictures as they are uploaded. Maybe they will eventually upload a photo that gives you or police enough information to locate them and get your property back. If they are the people who stole it from you, the popo hopefully knows them from previous contacts.
Last i checked it was still illegal to possess stolen property, whether you were the thief or not.

I just read the thread, what a nightmare. I have a background in computer security for corporations. It is not that uncommon for laptops, etc to get stolen. They can be tracked and it is possible to use the Dropbox account to give you the IP. The IP will be the locations used. Here is how to do it from your account get it and contact the Police

iPad can always be found on via an Apple apps showing its location on a google map, as soon as it gets on wifi, anywhere worldwide. Think about that before your next buy. You can practically drive to that address, sometimes even a particular room in that rathole.

My daughter had hers stolen, and did just that. One of her students took it, they tracked it to a store and set off an alarm on the computer. The thief abandoned it and she got it back from the store management ...

(The student got caught up with too ....

You can probably install lookout on it and have it do a location scan. I don't know if GPS on the device is required for this or not though.

There is the regular program and plan b if I recall correctly.

iPads normally don't wear Toshiba cases. So I am thinking he had a Thrive stolen, not an iPad.

It is illegal to buy stolen goods if you know or should know that they are stolen. "Should know" means that a reasonable person would understand, in those circumstances, that the item was stolen.

No, there is no proof that they're the actual burglars, but if they're not, they might have info about who is. However, even if they're not the person who removed the tablet from OPs home, they're still in possession of stolen goods, and the stolen goods needs to be returned to its rightful owner.

I don't care so much about the tablet. I just want the thug that broke out my window and stole $10k worth of my personal belongings caught. I'm not the first nor the last of their victims I'm sure.

An interesting thing about the Thrive is that I cracked the screen a week before the burglary. A replacement was $400 so I decided to not replace it as it still worked fine. However, that eliminates pawn shops and Craigslist from the list of most likely transfers. My guess is the cracked screen made it a gift to a friend.

Then go for it, my man. Go for it.

And also remember that if you ever purchase something from a private seller, and that item turns out to be stolen, you have to give the item back to the rightful owner but you're out of the money you paid.

I have no problem with that.
