Just saw this. I've been wondering why I haven't seen him posting.

CJ always had a kind word.

I am deeply saddened to read of his passing.

May you Forever Rest in Peace, CJ.

we've lost a few gt posters since i got here and i've felt bad for them all but CJ's passing is the first to actually bring tears to my eyes. we've butted heads on a few occasions but it was always civil and it always ended with one of us admitting we were wrong and offering to buy the other a beer. i will always regret that neither of us had the chance to honor those offers. damn this is a real blow.

wherever you are Sir i wish you smooth roads, blue skies, and a humming engine.

I remember when I met him in person... As exhausted as he was when he walked into the room, he exuded a quiet strength. He'd be the first person to tell you that he wasn't perfect, but he was loving and good. Having his friendship and respect were points of pride for me. He was that kind of man.

I am mourning.
Well said...

I am truly saddened by this news. I have been recently thinking about him and wondering why he hadn't been posting but assumed he was busy and out of the country. Godspeed, CJ.

CJ was one of the most rational, level headed, and just plain nice guys I've ever seen on this board.

I remember one thread where this hippy missionary couple had their van break down in Central America or somewhere and had fell on some hard times; robbed, raped, etc. They were dead broke and needed help getting back to the USA. Every other poster on this board were spouting out their precious neo-con gunbunny catchphrases-- "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes", "Stupid hurts", "That's what you get for being hippies", "That's what you get for leaving the USA" and so on. Just another day in the lounge, you might say. Amidst all this smug bull****, CJ actually stepped up and donated $100 to them. He said something to the effect that he had made some mistakes in his early life too, and had come through with the kindness of strangers, and now was trying to pay it forward.

It's a strange damned world we live in. RIP, Chad.

He was so young, MY age. This sucks.

RIP Chad Landry.

I'll come back and edit this posting when I have a spare minute to actually....well...think.

I was actually scrolling through my phone earlier today and saw his name/email/etc and merged them into one contact on my new Droid phone. In the background, I had this thought that I REALLY needed to call him. Too late. Didn't even realize it, but I'm not sure why I paused on him today. Must have known on some level.

I had been thinking about CJ not posting for about the last 2 weeks or so.
It is ODD a natural disaster can kill 80,000 people, and you don't feel it,
but someone who you share ideas and comments with, you can feel something wrong.

Once, several years back, Chad was bemoaning the fact that Lowe's was selling their Maglite flashlights in various sizes and colors for around $10 and he was out of the country. I emailed and offered to pick up as many as he wanted.

Long story short, he accepted the offer and I picked up a dozen and a half from his list, and mailed them that day, telling him to send me a check whenever he got home.

My wife asked if it wasn't foolish doing this for someone I had never spoken with or even met in person.

I answered, "Usually, but with this guy, you just know."

I have tried many times to figure out just what made all who knew him, "just know" he was real, and that he was a good man. An honorable man of his word.

Chad, "I just know" brother. Peace my friend.

I agree. He was a very "raw" and "authentic" person. I knew him in real life.
