I actually live off of a street named Las Nubes. It means the clouds in Spanish. It is pronounced lahs new-base.
I have had a number of Texans and Yankees visit me and refer to it as las noobs. Nifty, eh?

Interesting discussion. Is it time only? Contribution? (And, if so, as measured by what standard?) Post count? Threads started? Posting rate?
[I.E.: I've been on here 10+ years, but have a posting rate of <15 posts/month.
Compare that to a guy like Bren, with fewer years, but a rate more like 300/month. Gwalchmai has been ona few months longer than I, but has 20 times as many posts. (I'd calculate Okie's rate, but I'm a lawyer, which means I suck at math or I'd have been a doctor.)]
I like the notion, too, that certain posters have a "personality" -- for a modern medium, it harkens back to an era when correspondents and commentators were known to one another only by their idea expressed in writing.
BUT . . . I propose the following definitive test:
You are a newb unless you know who Walter was.

as soon as you quit caring who thinks you're a newb. realize the person slinging insults wraps themselves in a blanket of insecurity. they are showing a strangled cry for help...
that's what dr. phil says, anyway.

the not caring part? amazing.
the dr. phil part was purely comedic, but, it got you to smile, so, mission accomplished.

GKL, I thought his was the name that could not be spoken, and that using the full name would cause Eric's automated, Carnivore data-mining, moderation software to target the user and delete the account. That's why I only wrote "Walter."
(Now I fear I am doomed as I have quoted your post.)

Hah. Nice try. I caught you fair and square.
Admit it, you're a newb.

You're a noob until you've read every single post in the 8:40 PM thread.

Hmmm... I can check #6 off the list... I have a long way to go on the other five.

FWIW I though "noob" was a contraction of nit-wit and boob, so it does fit a few very well.
CF, if you're still a newb, I've got a long ways to go.
