As I understand it, the Gen 4 with NO backstrap is the same size as the SF. The medium back strap makes it the same size as a Gen 3 grip. The Large one is, well, its for people with Gorilla sized hands I think.

I couldn't decide between no back strap and the medium one, so I shot it both ways. My groups were much tighter without the medium back strap, so I guess I am shooting the equivalent of the G30SF.

Welcome to Glock Talk.

Many people, myself included, who have compared a Gen3 G30SF and the Gen4 G30 say the Gen4 G30, without any backstrap adapter installed, "feels" smaller in their hand.

You will be hard pressed to measure the difference with calipers, but the uniform grip texture around the entire circumference of the Gen4 G30 gives one an impression of smaller girth when holding the pistol. The Gen3 G30SF does not have a uniform texture. The deeper texture of the G30SF on the backstrap and finger grooves compared to the sides gives the impression of a greater girth to the grip.

If you have the choice between a G30SF and G30 Gen4, I recommend the Gen4. The Gen4 grip texture is an asset when your hands are wet, sweaty or gloved.

I think GRT4 has summed it up perfectly and accurately. I've swapped my beloved 21SF for a Gen4 21 and the next Ge4 30 that arrives at my LGS will replace my wonderful 30SF.

Tech Support

If it helps at all, I just called Glock Tech support and asked this same question. The answer was the 30SF and 30 Gen 4 with no additional back straps are the same size.

with that said, I think the comment about the Gen 4 having uniform feel all around the grip makes sense to me.

Did you ask them why they are not putting the G30S slide on the Gen 4 frame?

Yes, G21 mags will fit and function in the G30 Gen4. The only restriction is if the reversible mag release of the Gen4 G30 is switched to left-handed service. In that case you will need Gen4 mags which have a mag catch notch on both sides of the mag body.

I've used my older G21SF 13 round magazine (standard GLOCK rail and no reversible magazine catch version) with success in my G31 Gen4...

I may have missed it, but I'd like to know if the Gen 3.5 G21SF 13-rd mags will fit and function in the Gen 3.5 G30SF?

Thanks,

AK

I don't know what you mean by Gen 3.5 (it's a term invented on the Internet for sure), but I can answer your question. Any mag for a G21 or G21SF of any Gen (1-4) will work in the G30SF pistol. Every mag ever made for a G21/21SF has a mag catch notch on the left side of the mag body (viewed from the front), and that is all the G30SF requires.
