Springfield needs to get their act together as it is, they dont need to expand into something else.
Then again, they do have a great, and well used customer service department.

They could get them made Lithgow in Australia. I believe they used to make the M1 and M14 receivers for SA. It would be cheaper however to get someone here to make them considering that there are only a handful of makers that make receiver forgings.

I hear it's one of the best, but I've never had to use them. I've owned about 11 Springfield pistols with a mix of XD,XDM,XDS and 1911s and never had to use their CS. I've owned 2 S&W pistols and 4 Kimbers and have had to use their CS a few times for the same gun.
As for another AR15 from another manufacture, the market is saturated enough.

I had troubles with the last 6 Springfield 1911's I bought, and my SOCOM had its issues as well. Ive pretty much sworn off them now, and unless it was an early gun, wont buy another.
Now as far as their earlier guns, I had a number of them as well, and they were decent, both rifles and pistols, but they were late 80's, early 90's guns, and they all seemed to be built to "spec", something the later guns were not.
As far as thier CS department, my last experience with them was far from satisfactory. They swore up and down the rail on my SOCOM was picatinny spec (it wasnt) and that the stock wasnt a done over GI stock (it was, and badly done over to boot). They also told me the gun would "loosen up", and come apart without tools (it never did while I had it). Compared to my other M1A's, fit and finish was terrible.

....why?
There is no shortage of excellent AR builders, and altogether too many okay AR builders. And if SA were to enter the market, they would simply be another okay AR builder in a sea of okay AR builders....woopie...

Springfield? Naaaah. A rebadged something or other. Maybe if their price point was competitive.
But... now, say...
Winchester (via FN)?
That might be a name brand to collect, and if FN makes them (who else?) one that might very well be a shooter. If the market wasn't already glutted.

If FN makes them?
Who do you think have been making M16A2s for Uncle Sam the last thirty years?
